1/ HE Dato’ @NadzirahO, Permanent Representative of 🇲🇾 to the @OPCW delivered the national statement of 🇲🇾 at the Fifth Review Conference of the Chemical Weapons Convention (#RevCon5)
2/ Among others, 🇲🇾 reiterates its commitment towards a 🌏 free of chemical weapons and the disarmament agenda. We review our active participation in the OPCW in the past 5 years, and announce our future commitment to further expand OPCW designated laboratories back home.
3/ #RevCon5 convenes on 15 May 2023 at the World Forum in The Hague, 🇳🇱, until 19 May 2023.
It aims to review the challenges and opportunities in the implementation of the Chemical Weapons Convention, since its last review by States Parties in 2018.

1/ At #CSP27, 🇲🇾 participated in the side-event on "Women, Peace, and Security, & the Chemical Weapons Convention", moderated by @UK_OPCW with panellists @Jenkinsbd, @OPCW & @EmbaMexNL. 🇲🇾 also co-sponsored a Joint Statement on Gender, coordinated by @IrelandinNL.
2/ Gender is cross-cutting issue with direct relevance to the implementation of each aspect of the Chemical Weapons Convention, including in the provision of care and assistance to women affected by chemical
weapons.
3/ It is crucial that in all aspects of the Secretariat’s work, including cooperation and assistance activities, training for inspectors and field missions, a gender perspective is applied, to ensure these differences are dealt with in an appropriate manner.
1/ H.E. Dato' @NadzirahO , Permanent Representative of Malaysia to the OPCW led the Malaysian delegation to the 27th Session of the Conference of the States Parties to the Chemical Weapons Convention (CSP-27) in The Hague from 28 November 2022 to 2 December 2022.
2/ Twenty-five years since the entry into force of the Convention, Malaysia remains committed to the ultimate goal of the Convention, which is to eliminate chemical weapons worldwide, be it in the form of existing stockpiles, old, abandoned, or new chemical weapons.
3/ Malaysia urges State Parties to comply with the obligations laid down by the Convention. This includes compliance with destruction-related activities as well as verification-related activities.
Ms. Shifa Kusumaningrum, First Secretary (Political) chaired the Informal Consultation on the Full Implementation of Article XI, in her capacity as the Facilitator of Article XI via online platform today.
More than 50 States Parties attended the meeting which among others, discuss the way forward pursuant to the conclusion of the work of the Article XI Drafting Committee and planning on the convening of the annual Article XI Review and Evaluation workshop.
States Parties also listened to the presentation on the update on the activities under Article XI to be conducted by Mr. Li Zhao, Head of the International Cooperation Branch of @OPCW.
