1/@SenWhitehouse attacks Supreme Court Justices on alleged conflicts of interests, but he’s taken significant action to benefit Ocean Conservancy (@OurOcean), where his wife has worked since 2007 as Marine Spatial Planner & been paid $2.4 million. Interactions are troubling.
2/ @SenWhitehouse has introduced many bills that directly benefit @OurOceans mission, such as S. 140, The Blue Globe Act.
3/Here's @SenWhitehouse on his “sweeping oceans package” that would be signed into law. No doubt his efforts directly benefit his wife’s organization & her work. Does @SenWhitehouse speak with his wife about what he can do to help her organization?

4/ @OurOcean supports bills introduced by @SenWhitehouse, for example Save Our Seas Act 2.0. His wife’s employer directly supports his work.

5/ @SenWhitehouse regularly helps Ocean Conservancy. He wrote blog post in 2017 on @OurOcean website congratulating leaders on their work.

6/ Here’s @SenWhitehouse speaking at an event co-hosted by Ocean Conservancy @OurOcean

7/ Here’s @SenWhitehouse on a panel that is moderated by an Ocean Conservancy staff member.
cjpavilion.org/session/commun…
8/ It’s comical that @SenWhitehouse criticizes Justices for alleged conflicts when he is directly assisting his wife’s organization.
9/ Sandra Whitehouse also was paid nearly $500k over three years (2016-18) by AltaSea at the Port of Los Angeles @AltaSeaOrg, another group whose work on ocean issues is significantly affected by @SenWhitehouse’s work.
10/ She worked at @AltaSeaOrg at the same time she worked for @OurOcean during years 2016-18. During those three years, she was paid $1.12 million from these two organizations.
11/ Correction to 1st & 9th tweets on dates of employment - Sandra Whitehouse began working at Ocean Conservancy in 2008 (not 2007). She began working at AltaSea in July 2015 (not 2016)

1/ @SenWhitehouse wife also is nonresident senior fellow since 2018 on Atlantic Council, a group that takes lots of $$ from oil companies & oil producing nations - Chevron, Embassies of Bahrain & UAE, Abu Dhabi Nat Oil Comp. Great work @capitalresearch

influencewatch.org/non-profit/atl…
2/@SenWhitehouse has denounced oil companies/industry, blaming them for climate change but clearly he & his wife have no problem letting these oil interests fund their household income. He lists his wife receiving compensation from Atlantic Council, though no amount is provided.
3/ Given his concerns about income sources of Justices’ spouses and conflicts, @SenWhitehouse should voluntarily disclose immediately all sources and amounts of income for his wife. If he does not, he is a hypocrite.

1/Judge Mark Wolf is testifying tomorrow at @JudiciaryDems hearing on “concerns” about Justice Thomas mistake in not listing his wife’s income on forms, which he immediately corrected when brought to his attention by filing amended forms. @SenJudiciaryGOP thefederalist.com/2023/05/12/dem…
2/ I hope Senators ask Judge Wolf if he is concerned about Justice Jackson repeatedly failing to list all of her husband’s income for years AND then not filing amended forms disclosing sources of his income when she learned of her omissions. @SenJudiciaryGOP
3/ Jackson listed husband’s consulting income on her first filing in 2012, but then never listed it again. It’s been more than a year since she acknowledged her mistake but has made no amendments disclosing husband’s additional consulting income, as required by law.

1/ @SenWhitehouse wants to talk about #SCOTUS ethics reform, but when it comes to stock trading, he's the one with an ethics problem. Great work on this issue and general background on @SenWhitehouse from @capitalresearch
influencewatch.org/person/sheldon… ImageImage
2/ In May 2017, @politico reported that @SenWhitehouse, a member of Health (HELP) Committee purchased shares in 3 pharmaceutical companies 10 days before November 2016 public roll-out of major bill to speed up FDA's drug approval process.
politico.com/story/2017/05/…
3/ @SenWhitehouse purchases occurred while lawmakers and lobbyists were hammering out details of proposal behind closed doors. Nothing was public yet.

1/ Here’s example of why Justice Thomas’ great nephew wasn’t a covered family member for reporting purposes under financial disclosure law. Some years ago, @RepMaxineWaters hired grandson to be her chief of staff in Congress despite law banning Members from hiring family members.
@RepMaxineWaters 2/But as @JakeSherman noted, law (5 USC 3110) has 27 different designations but NOT grandson. Sherman cites ethics lawyer that law is clear & Waters was fine to hire grandson as her chief of staff. Every press account I've read covered it this way.
politico.com/blogs/on-congr…
3/ I agree. Congress knows how to write a law and specify who is a covered family member. Maxine Waters hires her grandson to be COS and press/ethics experts are fine with it - Look at statute, does not say grandson in definition of family members, End of discussion.

STATEMENT OF MARK PAOLETTA, FRIEND OF JUSTICE THOMAS

The Thomases have rarely spoken publicly about the remarkably generous efforts to help a child in need. They have always respected the privacy of this young man and his family. It is disappointing and painful, but unsurprising… twitter.com/i/web/status/1…
5 USC 13101 (2) - Definition of "Dependent Child" for reporting purposes under Ethics In Government Act does not include great nephew Image

1/ @SenWhitehouse attacks Justice Thomas on his disclosure forms. Has he reviewed Justice Jackson’s forms? She has made multiple errors over years. And she still may not be properly disclosing her income. Let’s review. Follow along @kedric_payne @CampaignLegal @FixTheCourt .
2/ Most significantly, Justice Jackson failed to disclosure her husband’s consulting income on medical malpractice cases on “some” of her previous forms. How many years and filings did she fail to disclose this income? But she doesn’t appear to have fixed her error.
3/The law requires a filer to report a spouse’s income from any SOURCE of more than $1,000. In her recent form, she lists in part III, “Legal Malpractice Consulting,” which appears to describe an ACTIVITY, not a SOURCE.
