This but make it #krtsk where Kuroo is the blue and tsukki is the gray. And kuroo tries again, a year later, but at the exact time and tsukki texts him a place and a time for their first date.
OK this but a #krtsk #kurotsuki mini thread!!

Kenma shook his head as Kuroo paced back and forth in the room. ‘Panicking isn’t going to make the time pass any faster.’

‘Shh shush I didn’t ask for your judgement. He said try again in a year, I’m not missing my chance.’

‘Sane
People would’ve taken that to mean no.’

‘Kyanmaaa you don’t understand,’ Kuroo whined flopping down on the mattress next to Kenma. ‘He’s my soulmate he just doesn’t know it yet.’ Kuroo goes on a tangent, waxing poetic about the tall blonde he had been obsessing over for the
Last 12 months. Kenma listened to him rant for a few minutes, before looking at his watch.

‘You’re a minute late.’

‘FUCK.’ Kuroo sprung up from the bed, scrambling for his phone. He smashes out a text, and then starts to bite his nails as he waits for a reply. He doesn’t have
To wait long, and clearly the reply isn’t what Kuroo wanted as he slumps down to the floor, groaning. ‘This is your fault for distracting me.’

‘Not my fault you’re a mess.’ Kenma rolls their eyes, focusing back on their game.

‘What’d he say, bro?’ Bokuto finally chimes in
From where he’s sprawled on Kenma’s floor, FaceTiming Akaashi.

‘No. Just no,’ Kuroo whines. Kenma has half a mind to delete the number from Kuroo’s phone.

‘Hey hey hey! He didn’t ask who you were, that has to count for something?’ Bokuto asks, glancing at Kenma for them to
Agree, but Kenma refuses to make eye contact.

‘Hey! That’s right, he clearly remembers me. I’ll try again, next year. I won’t let you sabotage me again!’ Kuroo declares, jumping up from his slouched position and wagging his finger at Kenma.

‘Do you want me to just set him up
On a blind date with you or something?’ Akaashi’s voice is muted through the phone, but clearly filled with pity. ‘A year is a long time.’

‘Nope. He made himself clear, I’ll try again next year.’

Kenma is pretty sure they sprain something from how hard their eyes roll.

~~~
Kuroo wasn’t messing it up this time. He had alarms and countdowns going all year, reminding him of his down to the minute chance of asking Tsukishima out again. He didn’t really need the reminders, he was reminded every time he saw a flash of golden blonde hair across campus,
Every time he would hear Tsukishima’s voice in the background of Akaashi’s calls.
He knew it was a bit silly of him to hold out hope for this long, but he knew the second he laid eyes on Tsukishima that they were meant to be. He could hear wedding bells in the distance, the sun
Beamed from behind a sky full of clouds, everything made sense to him, yada yada.
Akaashi had kept asking if Kuroo just wanted him to talk to him, seeing as he was friends with the blonde but Kuroo was determined to make it his own way. Besides, what a story to tell their
Future kids(or cats, or puppies, whatever the blonde wanted.) He was counting down the days, and when Bokuto had tried to invite him out to dinner that same evening he declined. He meant it when he said no distractions this time. The hour was ticking closer and closer, and soon
Enough he was less than ten minutes from the exact time. He wasn’t pacing this time, but his knee was bouncing nervously.
His plan was to start the text a few minutes before the time and to wait until the exact second to press send. His phone was plugged in as well, all other
Electronics in the house turned off while he waited. He drafted the text, tapping his fingers on the desk while he watched the seconds tick down. He pressed send, heard the swoop of the message going off to Tsukishima’s phone, and closed his eyes. Laying his head down on the
Desk, he took a deep breath, ignoring the 100 possibilities. What if Tsukishima had changed his number? What if Tsukishima was seeing anyone? What if he said no again? What if he said yes??
He was saved from panicking for too long when his phone buzzed. He jumped up, hoping
His friends had taken the hints to not message him until he text them tonight, and he isn’t ashamed to admit he screamed a bit when he saw Tsukishima’s name on his screen. Bracing himself, he opened his phone. He had to reread the text four times before it sunk in.
Tsukishima Kei(future loml):
December 13th, 2 pm. Crows Nest coffee. Don’t be late 🔪
Kuroo texts back a string of incoherent letters and numbers before calming down long enough to send ‘see you then 🥹😊’. Then he set his phone down, volume up in case Tsukishima had something else to say, and started cheering and dancing around his room. He pauses in his
Celebration when his phone dings, and he grabs it. It’s Akaashi and he opens it to yell at him for ignoring Kuroo’s rules, only to see a ‘congrats’ paired with a candid of Tsukishima, blushing as he looks down at his phone. It’s angled enough he can see his own text on the
Screen, and he automatically saves the picture as Tsukishima’s contact. He texts back a flurry of exclamation points, and a selfie of himself grinning as wide as he possibly can. He’s rewarded with another picture from Akaashi. This time Tsukishima is fully red, and yelling at
Akaashi(presumably for the first picture). Before Kuroo can reply, he gets a message from Tsukishima.
‘Delete it. Or send me something equally embarrassing back. Only options.’
He grins, already starting the countdown til their first date.
(Will I write their first date? Idk but I have to get back to work rip)
‘I can’t believe you made him wait two years,’ Akaashi chides through the phone. Tsukishima clicks his tongue in response.
‘You know I was seeing someone when he first asked.’
‘Correction: you were fucking someone, not seeing them. And the second time, what’s your excuse for
When he asked you a literal year later?’
‘He was two minutes late,’ Tsukishima pouts. Akaashi sighs, but it turns into a laugh.
‘You’re so dramatic. The two of you will be perfect together.’ Tsukishima hums in reply, turning down the street the coffee shop they were
Supposed to meet at is on.
‘Sure, sure.’
‘How much longer until you’re at the cafe?’
‘Just a few minutes,’ Tsukishima replies, shifting the phone to hold it between his head and his shoulder so he can dig around in his bag to make sure he has his wallet before entering the
Shop. Akaashi laughs again.
‘Kei, you’re half an hour early.’
‘And?’ He asks, affronted. ‘I need to pick the best seat and scope the place out before he gets here, you know that.’
‘He’s probably already there if I know him.’
‘He wouldn’t also be half an hour early, don’t
Be—‘ he cuts off as he spots Kuroo’s unmistakable hair through the window. ‘-shit. He is there already. Keiji, what do I do?’
‘Just go inside, start the date early. He won’t mind, he’s only been obsessing over you for two years.’ Akaashi’s voice is exasperated but kind as he
Talks Tsukishima down from a panic.
‘He hasn’t been obsessing.’
‘He has, trust me. Just like you’ve been obsessing over him.’
‘I’m hanging up on you,’ Tsukishima scowls, feeling his face heat up.
‘Bye, have a good date,’ Akaashi laughs as Tsukishima presses the end call
Button. He takes a few more minutes to calm himself down and walks in the doors. Kuroo doesn’t look up, clearly not expecting Tsukishima so early. Tsukishima hesitates, deciding between getting a drink first or going over to the table first. It doesn’t look like Kuroo has one,
Would it be rude to not ask if he wants anything? Before he can make up his mind, his presence is announced loudly by the barista.
‘Tsukki! You want your usual?’ Hinata, a friend of Tsukishima’s from high school who’s behind the counter, asks. Kuroo turns in his seat at his
Name, smiling at the blonde. Tsukishima shoots a glare at Hinata who shouts in protest of the cold stare, but he walks away before the tangerine can make another comment. He walks up to the table Kuroo had picked out, thankful that it was the same one he would’ve chosen. Kuroo
Stands as he approaches, looking as nervous as Tsukishima feels.
‘I uh, see we both are a little early?’ Tsukishima asks. Kuroo chuckles, reaching up to ruffle his own hair a bit, a seemingly nervous tick.
‘I guess so. Did you want something to drink?’
‘Oh. I was just going
To order,’ Tsukishima glances over his shoulder at the menu.
‘Cool! Tell me what you want, my treat.’
‘You don’t have to pay for me,’ Tsukishima argues but Kuroo shakes his head.
‘It’s a date right? I’ll cover this one, you can get the next one.’ Tsukishima caves and tells
Kuroo his preferred drink, and takes a seat while he waits for Kuroo to order and pay. He comes back with the drinks and they settle in. It’s awkward at first, despite how long they had both been waiting for this, neither one of them quite sure how to navigate it. They’re
Saved by Hinata, a sentence Tsukishima would never think he would say, when he shows up with two plates. It’s two slices of Tsukishima’s favorite dessert, strawberry shortcake.
‘Here!’ He declares, setting one in front of both of them. He continues before either of them can
Argue. ‘This is from Suga, he said and I quote: ‘tell Tsukki congrats on the date but he’s killing me. Every time I look at the camera they’re not talking.’’ Tsukishima feels his face start to blush again, and silently curses his former senior. ‘Here’s a hint for you,’ Hinata
Says turning to Kuroo. ‘Ask him about his degree or classes, he won’t shut up then.’
‘Fuck off or we’re leaving,’ Tsukishima hisses. It’s silent as Hinata scurries back behind the counter to avoid Tsukishima’s wrath. He slowly looks up at Kuroo, who’s smiling at him through
A blush of his own.
‘I take it you know the workers here?’
‘Yes. Don’t judge me, but I wanted an escape route in case you were a creep,’ Tsukishima admits. Kuroo laughs at that, loud and unrefined, and it loosens some of the tension in Tsukishima’s stomach.
‘No, that’s
Smart actually. How am I doing? Are you planning your escape?’
‘It remains to be seen.’ Tsukishima smiles despite himself, shoving a forkful of cake in his mouth to hide it.
‘Well, my intentions are pure, promise,’ Kuroo holds out his pinky for a promise and Tsukishima takes
A hold of it with his own. This time their blushes match, and they look away when they let go. Kuroo clears his throat, determined to not let the conversation lull again. ‘So, your degree huh?’
‘He’s exaggerating. I do like to talk about it but not /that/ much.’
‘Hey, no
Judgement. I can’t count on one hand the amount of times one of my friends has had to physically restrain me from talking about one of my classes,’ he smiles at Tsukishima. ‘So, what are you studying?’
‘Archeology and history. You’re business and chemistry right? That’s a weird
Combination.’
‘Ah, yeah.’ He reaches up to mess with his hair again, solidifying Tsukishima’s belief that it’s an unconscious move. ‘Business for my hopefully future job, chemistry for my passion. How’d you know my major?’
‘Akaashi might have mentioned it once or twice,’ he
Tells him. The awkwardness from the start fades more and more as they finally fall into a somewhat easy conversation. They both completely lose track of time, and when Tsukishima’s alarm goes off as his last warning to make it to practice on time, he startles in his seat. They
Both realize the hour at the same time, and the awkwardness starts to creep back in.
‘You have plans?’ Kuroo asks, standing to grab the trash from the table to throw it out. Tsukishima frowns as he nods.
‘I have practice.’
‘Ooh yeah, the Frogs?’ Kuroo asks, sounding
Genuinely curious. Suddenly Tsukishima is reminded of why his last situationship didn’t work, and why he was so hesitant to talk to Kuroo. He was going to break it to him gently, but it comes blurting out.
‘I’m busy. Like all the time. Most people don’t think it’s worth the
Effort to see someone when I literally have to schedule you in around school and work and volleyball. I..I had a really good time and I do like you, Kuroo, but I don’t want you to get your hopes up for something I might not be able to provide for you.’ He hears Hinata groan from
Behind the counter and reminds himself to talk to him about minding his own business. Kuroo pauses, head tilted while he looks at Tsukishima before he breaks out into another grin.
‘Good thing I’m not most people huh? You can’t think after I waited two years just for one date
That you would scare me away with a busy schedule, huh?’ Tsukishima sputters, clearly not expecting that reaction. Kuroo steps closer, slowly reaching a gentle hand out to take Tsukishima’s hand in his own. ‘I had a good time too. I look forward to seeing you again, even if it’s
Only for a few minutes in between classes, or at one am after you get home from a match. I’m not picky, really.’
The reassurance does it’s job, and slowly, Tsukishima nods, smiling. ‘Okay. Then, what do you say about walking me to the gym?’
‘I’d say lead the way,’ Kuroo
Smiles back. Tsukishima waved goodbye to a grinning Hinata, and pulls Kuroo out of the shop by the hand. Halfway to the gym, he starts to laugh.
‘Hm?’ Kuroo asks.
‘Keiji is going to be so annoying about this,’ he says, shaking their combined hands slightly. Kuroo laughs in
Agreement.
‘Yeah, probably. Although, I feel like I should warn you that my best friend, Kenma, they might take a bit to warm up to you at first. I uh, might have been a bit dramatic the second time you told me no and they were in the room,’ Kuroo ponders.
‘Kenma? No, they
Stopped being mad at me when I gave them the stupid item they wanted. Did they never tell you that the two of us literally play games together every week?’ Tsukishima laughs again as Kuroo gasps.
‘That traitor! How the hell did it take us so long to actually talk person to
Person,’ he laughs.
‘I’m not sure, but what a story right?’
End!
Tsukki goes on a trip with the museum. It’s the frogs off season and they need someone to go to Argentina and meet with a department head there, and tsukki’s boss can’t make it so they ask him and of course he says yes?? The frogs are doing amazing
But he won’t play volleyball forever, he’s going to do all he can to further his career at the museum.
So he goes and the museum is amazing and the head of the department is close to his own age and despite his rusty hold on the language he learned years ago, they converse well
Together. The deal is all but signed, when the museum worker invites tsukki out for a night on the town. Normally he would decline, but over the course of the day the man had let it slip that his husband would be going, and after a tense moment when he realized what he
