Let talk about the 89million hectares of land that is owned by:

1. Individuals (37 million hectares)

2. Companies (23 million hectares)

3. Trusts (29 million hectares)

REMEMBER
The same individuals who owns 37m of land also own these companies and trusts!

#FarmingWithShana Image
1. Individuals
In South Africa, there’s +6million individuals who are “Land Owners”. This simple means they have title deeds and are registered in the Deeds Office in CapeTown!

There’s definitely more out there!!!😌😅 Image
With South Africa population peeking at 60million, this means only 10% are real owners of land in the “Democratic Land of RSA”.

Top 2 Provinces you’ll find these individuals:

1. Western Cape with 2million (3.3%)

2. Gauteng with 1.1million (1.8%) ImageImage

Butternut Production 101

FunFacts

- Did you know Butternuts, Cucumbers and Watermelons are in the same family?

- Butternut is one of the common vegetables that are often recommended by dieticians in the cholesterol controlling and weight reduction programs😁👀

Thread Image
1. Soil
- Sandy loam to loam soils are highly preferable for butternut production.

- Good drainage soils are good for production, depth of +45 - 90cm if you can

- If you did not do your land preparations accurately during heavy rains, the soil surface will remain soggy/wet... Image
- Wet and soggy soils is a hub for pathogens and will definitely lead to your butternuts fruit rotting

- Do your soil samples to save money especially when it comes to fertilizers

- Butternuts can be planted on flat surfaces, ridges and even on trellis. Image

A Thread ImageImageImageImage
I am sure the question in everyone's mind is:

How did they accumulate so much wealth overtime?

1. Background
- It wasn't an easy ride, I guess we all could say farming is hard business right?

- ZZ2 empire founder and pioneer Mr Willem Van Zyl started his empire in 1702... Image
- The year is 1702 and Mr Willem Van Zyl gets fired from a farm hw was working under "The Dutch East Indian Company in the Cape of Good".

- Reason that got Mr Willem, was "insubordination", it was time he stopped taking orders and built his empire from scratch! Image

-Unhealthy soils will harbor unwanted microorganisms like nematodes and disease causing pathogens Image
- Note that not all nematodes found in soils are harmful to your plants!!!

1.1 Soil Samples

- Do your soil samples prior planting.

- Soil samples will save you from knowing whether the soil is good or bad for potato production.

-Crop nutrition relies on soil analyses. Image
