Trading 413 for the battery plant while letting transit systems fall into a death spiral would signal that the federal govt has signed onto the Ford govt’s car dependent sprawl agenda & further blow up chances of meeting 2030 transport sector GHG targets.

If this deal were to go through, Ontario taxpayers would get the double whammy of a $10 billion highway that increases emissions by 13 million tonnes (even with EVs on it), for the privilege of paying ransom money to a foreign corporation that made $25 billion in profit last year
Canadians expect the environment & the economy to go hand in hand.

That means striking a deal with Stellantis that gets real value for workers - & doesn’t let this corporation hold our communities hostage.

Not selling the federal obligation to protect species at risk for cash
This suggestion is in fact so ridiculous, that it makes you wonder who leaked it.

Perhaps some wishful thinking on the part of the Ontario government? #StopThe413

Biting new audit from @OAG_BVG on the effectiveness of car and truck vehicle emissions standards.

They failed to meet predicted emissions reductions because automakers pivoted production away from cars towards light trucks.

@environmentca failed to account for this loophole.
Here are the relevant sections of the audit. #CdnPoli ImageImage
@envirodefence, @equiterre and @DavidSuzukiFDN have all raised this loophole in the emissions standards regulations as a huge problem in our latest submission to @environmentca. We need to close this loophole when adopting the new Biden tailpipe standards. environmentaldefence.ca/wp-content/upl…

This is the first time I’ve seen a column so successfully translate the nerdy discussions from transit twitter onto the pages of the @TorontoStar.
Bottom line, the TTC performs MUCH better than US equivalents because its frequent bus network, why cut it?
thestar.com/opinion/star-c…
But this is not the ceiling for the TTC, lots of ridership gains on the table possible from interventions to increase service speed (bus lanes!) and housing density. But it proves we can recreate its success in other Canadian cities with much more service supply. #CdnPoli
Well done, @thekeenanwire
