Today in Berlin, the only publ. event commemorating the Nakba took place. All others - organized mostly by Palestinians were preemptively barred by City/Police. This one was organized by pro-Palestinian Jewish Activists among them descendants of Holocaust survivors. I shouldn’t >
have to point this out because Palestinians shouldn’t have to rely on other - any! - group to lend authority/space/voice to commemorate their own & ongoing ethnic cleansing, the wanton destruction of their history/society spanning millennia by European settlers. Here in Germany >
however this is the case. Palestinians aren’t afforded any space by the state, their rights to congregate are systematically undermined due to a misunderstood sense of responsibility & guilt. From the beginning, the rather small demonstration faced intense Police intimidation. >
From a little distance, you wouldn’t even be able to tell something was going on because Police riot cars had encircled the square almost fully. After a short while, Police ended the demonstration under flimsy pretense. Police (who almost outnumbered demonstrators) then swarmed >
the square disrupting/dispersing the assembly that had consistently been peaceful. Then Police began arresting both participants & demonstrators at random adding to the repressive climate for anyone standing in solidarity with Palestinians. 🇩🇪 is neither safe for Palestinians nor
anyone standing in solidarity with them - even descendants of Holocaust survivors, which clearly elucidates the ideological cul-de-sac Germany inhabits.
Israel is and always has been a rogue state founded on mythical delusion and ethnic cleansing.
If you feel triggered by this statement, you should seriously examine your outlook on this planet and question your underlying revisionism and Western Supremacism.
As a settler-construct built by euro-colonizers it is well-aware of the underlying fragility (history doesn’t treat oppressive structures kindly) and thus acts like it - exposing its pathological need for compensation as was demonstrated yesterday during its annual flag pogrom.
Zoé yesterday said it best: freedom of settlers *is* the violence. It reminds me of Fanon’s assertion that existence of colonizers is violence in itself. As such the settler state will not & cannot tire: it needs to perpetually escalate violence against natives to survive.
