Crazy day on Twitter. Take a step back from GOP default: A Bush judge just rolled back New Jersey gun laws, due to corrupt Clarence Thomas’ Bruen decision.

This isn’t a game. Are we going to just let these corrupt judges get kids killed, in red and blue states alike? /1 Image
If you live in New Jersey, a SCOTUS judge who is literally taking bribes from a pro-gun billionaire just pushed guns onto your streets. Same in IL: rolled back an AR-15 ban.

That’s on the corrupt Court. It’s on the Fed Soc and the billionaires that bribe these judges.
Every shooter drill your kid does, especially in NJ or IL, is due to Clarence Thomas and the Fed Soc.

Are you going to tolerate this? Just let everyone take a legal approach to fixing the country when the courts rule the other two branches and the courts are corrupt?
Brian Schatz is going to tweet about Republicans without saying the word “Republican” and also not mention the court takeover — the full takeover of one branch??! This is cowardly and insufficient.

If you are in #NewJersey, your life is more at risk from gun death today because of our corrupt courts.

@MeganCoyne46 @megancoyne23 your friends and family and every shooter drill you did- the corrupt courts are making it worse. And we have no plan to unpack the courts.
@MeganCoyne46 @megancoyne23 The correct thing to do now: Biden should sit down with Schumer and @SenWhitehouse and draw up a plan to do primetime hearings on court corruption: Gorsuch and Clarence Thomas and Scalia and the trips they took from billionaires.
Do it for TV. Hire a TV producer.
@MeganCoyne46 @megancoyne23 @SenWhitehouse Our lives and our kids’ lives are literally at risk due to the corrupt courts.

Are we going to act? Put on political pressure? Or just pretend legal methods will work with a political court focused on imposing chaos and fascism?
@MeganCoyne46 @megancoyne23 @SenWhitehouse We can and should act.
Senate hearings now.
@MeganCoyne46 @megancoyne23 @SenWhitehouse And apparently this is a controversial opinion but I firmly believe it’s a good thing when restaurants advertise they think the Supreme Court is full of sh*t and is responsible for gun deaths!!

This history of Clarence Thomas reveals why Koch funds @TheFIREorg and pays the Atlantic to cover speech.

"The most sacred provision of the Constitution was freedom of speech...

Thomas realized that the activity of the businessman and the banker could be redescribed as speech" Image
"Like regulation of speech, any policies and laws regulating those activities could be subject to the highest levels of judicial scrutiny. Under this approach, the constitutional — and civilizational — order of the New Deal could be overturned."
from @CoreyRobin
@CoreyRobin This is why FIRE and "free speech on campus" so ties up liberals and why rightwing billionaires fund this crap so heavily.

Free speech IS an important principle. Free speech for all. Not just rich people and conservatives.
The evil part is...

This mess on the debt ceiling will not rebound on Biden. Why?
Because the centrist establishment, which controls the PAC money and makes convincing unrebutted arguments using polls, thinks
he’s right.
The centrist consultants have persuaded almost all the Dem pols that the best thing to do is be bipartisan. And they’re not fools. The arguments sound reasonable.
They’re pointing to Afghan withdrawal as evidence Biden should be bipartisan and negotiate.

They look at Punchbowl attacking
Biden and screaming for negotiations with Punchbowl buddies in McCarthy office. And that’s reasonable! Media hurt Biden about Afghanistan.

These are Four Powers Republicans are trying to take for themselves at our expense.

For example, the power to menace with guns, which directly infringes everyone’s freedom to live safely and pursue our own happiness.
Freedoms are granted to ALL of us, not just a few.
@jbouie
@jbouie Republicans want the power to censor, to suppress voices they don’t like. That’s not a freedom, it’s a power. The freedom is freedom of speech, granted to all.
Republicans want the power to exploit— to exploit workers, to suppress them and hold them back. That’s not a freedom granted to all, that’s a power.

Amazing interview with a Democratic state rep. “I don’t like you…” she said to Republicans.

This is the opposite of US Senators. She’s not seeking “bipartisan comity.” Centrist consultants can’t force civility forever, as state Dems are acting.

Exactly this! People like honesty. We can sniff out hypocrisy, and the quest for “bipartisanship” with fascists sounds to normal people like hypocrisy.

Yes. People who poll public opinion hear from voters that Democrats sound weak, that they don’t know what Democrats stand for.
That’s because of this misguided quest for bipartisanship.

We all know what @NebraskaMegan stands for! Let’s do more of this.

Excellent insights today from @ddayen and @ryanlcooper about our legal system and the debt ceiling.

- SCOTUS won’t see the 14th Amendment first, some corrupt MAGA judge in Texas will. That’s bad! But will MAGA Kacsmaryk really vote to crash the US economy? We must /1 Image
@ddayen @ryanlcooper get out in front of this- talk about it so MAGA judges get the blame.
Which means they confirm @whstancil’s point:
The sooner Biden says he’s ignoring the debt ceiling, citing the 14th Amendment and other law, the better!
The longer Biden waits the more muddled things get.
/2
@ddayen @ryanlcooper @whstancil That means I disagree with Dayen, who says to litigate this now.
That’s a bad idea because it will be easy, with attention elsewhere, for the corrupt courts to take 14A off the table now.
We want this litigated when the pressure is on. Force MAGA judges to choose /3

I love Brian Schatz but he is getting this wrong.
The media is asking Repubs normal questions b/c Dems like Schatz and Murphy are doing normal public policy deals with Rs like Tom Cotton.
Why? centrist consultants tell them bipartisanship is important. 🧵
@MikeInacay
@MikeInacay Here Schatz and @ChrisMurphyCT are showing off their bipartisan deal with Tom Cotton as if all is normal.

If Dems want the public to think Republicans are uniquely dangerous—and Cotton is— they have to start acting like it!

Cc @becca_drago Image
@MikeInacay @ChrisMurphyCT @becca_drago Of course the press and the public don’t take Schatz seriously when he calls out Republicans when at the same time he is bragging about doing small bipartisan deals with them.
