Roger Waters is being INVESTIGATED by Berlin police after he "appeared onstage in a Nazi-like uniform."
He's clearly depicting Pink from The Wall (1982), famously played by Bob Geldof, who descends into a drug-addled fascist fantasy in a film that CONDEMNS fascism. Absurd. 🧵
Show included a list of people murdered by state violence, including Anne Frank, George Floyd & Shireen Abu Akleh.
Whether you think this is in good taste, it's a perfectly legitimate artistic statement, clearly taking aim at authoritarianism & government brutality generally. 🧵
But of course, many of the high-profile accusers, & likely the Berlin courts as well, know this.
This willful ignorance is a response to Waters' support for Palestine, & renewed efforts to silence such critics on the left with wildly exaggerated charges of antisemitism.🧵
Direct action groups like Just Stop Oil reflect a genuine, urgent desire by a layer of young people in particular to do *something* about climate change before it's too late. Their methods are ineffective, but they're an understandable response to a very real threat. 🧵1/8
Reactionary pundits & politicians target these groups as part of a divisive culture war: enraging sections of the public, some of whom physically assault activists. Tories & Starmer's Labour both demand greater police powers to "deal with them", undermining civil liberties. 🧵2/8
Meanwhile, the fatcats at the top of the big polluting industries, who endanger the future of civilisation itself, are never beaten on the roads, nor bundled into police vans. These are the real vandals and criminals, and they enjoy the full protection of the state.🧵3/8

As Marxist-Leninists, you fight for world proletarian revolution & seek to build a revolutionary party ✊
But are your leaders worthy of these goals? And what did Marx & Lenin really stand for? 1/8
"In a letter to the Morning Star earlier this year, a member of the YCL argued that discussions over differences between Stalin and Trotsky 'are wasting our time'... a 'distraction from getting real work done'... He asks if we are not bored by talking about our history." 2/8
"Prioritising 'getting real work done' over understanding Marxism seems to be the method of the YCL leaders. [The] focus... has been on banner drops, setting off flares, waving flags, chanting their own name on demos (as well as Stalin’s!), & collecting for food banks." 3/8
