Some people wonder why the Men’s #ADHD Support Group even exists despite Men with ADHD being the ones who are highly diagnosed with it and it often being over seen and under diagnosed in women.
I’m the founder of the organization and here’s a thread 🧵
The Men’s ADHD Support Group was conceived in response to a unique issue: the stigma men face when seeking mental health support.
Though men are frequently diagnosed with ADHD, navigating the realities of the condition is far from straightforward.
Societal expectations often push men towards embodying strength and self-reliance.
The idea that seeking help signifies weakness can make it challenging for men to reach out, leading to feelings of isolation and a lack of necessary support for ADHD management.
Simultaneously, we must acknowledge the different challenges women with ADHD face.
Women are often underdiagnosed, as ADHD in women can present differently than in men. This lack of recognition and understanding can leave women feeling unseen and unsupported.
The existence of the Men’s ADHD Support Group does not negate or diminish the struggles that women face.
Nor will it ever. Not as long as I’m the president.
Rather, it highlights the necessity of focused support for everyone affected by ADHD, regardless of gender.
In aiding men, we indirectly support everyone impacted by ADHD. By understanding the unique struggles that men face, we cultivate a more compassionate and knowledgeable society.
Everyone with ADHD deserves to feel seen, heard, and supported.
By shedding light on the unique experiences and challenges of men with ADHD, we hope to enhance the broader understanding of ADHD.
Creating a nuanced conversation around ADHD helps everyone. We all benefit from a society that values, supports, and understands all its members.
