The beginning of the full-scale war: experience of Kyiv businesswoman. #UkraineWorldTestimony
Iryna Synytska is the co-founder of a clothing brand & massage salon based in Kyiv. Like many other 🇺🇦s, Iryna & her family had to leave home due to the full-scale 🇷🇺invasion. 1/11
Iryna had prepared for the war. She and her family had been expecting a Russian attack since February 15 and believed the intelligence forecasts. Back in January, she & her husband packed an emergency backpack, got all the necessary vaccinations for themselves & their cats, 2/11
made passports for the animals just in case, and prepared a place to leave Kyiv in case of danger. The family refueled the car every day, keeping their tank and spare fuel containers ready. 3/11
How could the presidential election in Türkiye impact Ukraine, diplomacy around the war, and the broader region? We spoke to Yuliya Tarasiuk, assistant professor at Odesa Mechnikov National University, to find out. 1/10
Since the electoral platforms of the two runoff candidates Erdoğan and Kılıçdaroğlu mainly focus on domestic matters (the country’s political system, regulation of economy, refugees, etc.), foreign policy issues are not playing a key role in the presidential campaign. 2/10
Moreover, the two candidates’ foreign policy visions do not differ very much (except that Kılıçdaroğlu’s latter’s rhetoric is more pro-Western). Hence, should a new administration be elected, Türkiye’s policy on the war in Ukraine is hardly likely to change much. 3/10
What are the peculiarities of Gagauzia and what consequences can elections there have for 🇺🇦 and 🇲🇩? UkraineWorld asked Sergiy Gerasymchuk, Regional Initiatives and Neighborhood Program Director at the “Ukrainian Prism”. Key points — in our brief. #UkraineWorldAnalysis 1/15
The Gagauz autonomous polity (the Autonomous Territorial Unit of Gagauzia, or simply Gagauzia) was established within Moldova in the early 1990s. They also have communities in the southwestern part of Odesa Oblast. 2/15
The political orientation of Gagauzia is distinctly pro-Russian. The population’s sentiments are shaped mainly by Russian narratives and Russian media, which is facilitated by the fact that the population is mostly Russian-speaking. 3/15
💔 Ukrainian writer Volodymyr Vakulenko, killed by Russian occupiers in Kharkiv Oblast, posthumously received the Prix Voltaire Special Award 2023 from the International Publishers Association.
Volodymyr Vakulenko was well-known for his strong patriotic stance, his active support to the 2014 Revolution of Dignity and his help to the 🇺🇦 military in the Kharkiv Oblast since the beginning of the Russian invasion.
He was arrested twice following the Russian invasion of Ukraine. The second time he was not released. His body was found in one of the mass graves in Izium.

These indomitable patriots have shown that true devotion to the Motherland is not dependent on the circumstances you find yourself in. #UW_InfoWatch#AgainstRussianLies
Azovstal was one of the largest metallurgical enterprises in Ukraine, located in Mariupol. Now it is destroyed after regular 🇷🇺 missile attacks while people were hiding in the bomb shelters there.
Russia often claims that Russia is the only country that fought against Nazism and won World War II. However, the reality is that the war affected 61 countries, from 50 to 75 million people were killed. 1/4
Among them are 8-10 million Ukrainians who were affected by the war as civilians and soldiers. This war is a huge tragedy for the whole world and people honor it under the slogan "Never again". 2/4

In its turn, Russia repeats history and begins a new cruel war in Europe invading Ukraine, occupying its territories, and threatening the world with nuclear weapons. "Remembering the feat of granddads" is just a guise for 🇷🇺 imperialist actions, occupation, and war crimes. 3/4
