TWITTER ADVICEš§µ: The following thread is my own experience and understanding of how you can leverage the current Twitter algorithm to increase the reach of your tweets. TWITTER ADVICEš§µ: @chrismessina formerly @factoryjoe came up with the idea of using #HASTAGS on Twitter. It was a wonderful invention but its time has passed. The Twitter algorithm penalizes tweets that use more than one and in my experience, even one can handicap a tweet.
TWITTER ADVICEš§µ: Never use Twitter's wonderful article preview feature. Twitter penalizes article links. If you want to include a link make sure you include a picture from the article (or related) to override the article preview. Twitter loves media posts.
TWITTER ADVICEš§µ: A better strategy for including links on Twitter is to create a mini-thread. The 1st tweet includes your message and a screenshot of the article. The 2nd tweet includes a link to the article either using the link preview feature or a picture from the article.
TWITTER ADVICEš§µ: Always 'like' and 'bookmark' your own tweets. At the end of the day, if you don't like your own tweets why bother tweeting them? Twitter loves signals and likes and bookmarks are signals.
TWITTER ADVICEš§µ: Find your best-performing tweets over the past 72hrs and turn them into threads. Each time you add a tweet to the thread you boost the visibility of the first - as much as 10X. Include flashbacks, updates, and additional sources.
TWITTER ADVICEš§µ: Unblock everyone. Only use BLOCK if someone is threatening you. Instead, use MUTE to make Twitter more enjoyable. Twitter penalizes the use of blocks and rewards mutes. The best part of MUTE is the fact that the target has NO idea you aren't listening.
TWITTER ADVICEš§µ: Never limit replies. By definition doing so will limit the reach of your tweets significantly. Again, if people are trolling you just MUTE them. Very quickly your experience on Twitter will improve and your reach will grow.
TWITTER ADVICEš§µ: Never reply to trolls. If you must, take a screenshot of the comment and include it in your tweet w/o a link to their handle or tweet. Replies boost visibility - deny that boost to your trolls. Don't reward them. But... reply to everyone you respect.
TWITTER ADVICEš§µ: ALWAYS give credit when you tweet an image, video, or thought from another user - even if they don't follow you. I use 'hat tip' or 'h/t' along with their Twitter handle. It doesn't cost you anything to give them credit and it increases your reach and theirs.
