The EU #electricity market experienced a weekend filled with unexpected twists & turns. Low demand, still 9-10% below pre-crisis levels, combined with strong solar production, created a surplus of #energy in most countries, pushing wholesale market prices into negative territory.
On Sunday, May 28th, the price on the EpexSpot exchange reached €400/MWh in the Netherlands.
This surplus affected the Day-Ahead exchanges, Intraday markets, and balancing mechanism, highlighting the complexity of managing transmission system surpluses.
