Jones says there are two more witnesses. One more in the morning and one more I the afternoon. Defense will have its witnesses tomorrow. So it looks like an early day today.
#bliefnicktrial
Next witness: Vickie Reels, ISP Firearms Identification. #bliefnicktrial
Reels describes how a bullet is fired from a gun. Says that each gun that is fired leaves its own distinction on each bullet.
So each gun leaves a distinct fingerprint on each shell and bullet.
Reels had 8 shell casings from the crime scene.
Reels describes using a comparison microscope in her process. Jones shows photos on the projector of bullets.
#Bliefnicktrial
The microscope is set at 40X, or 40 times.
Tim has turned and is looking at the screen.
Reels said all 8 casings were fired by the same firearm. #Bliefnicktrial
Reels testifies bullets removed from Becky’s body matched the shell casings left behind. Said a CZ or a Ruger fired them. She talks about the 27 shell casings found in Tim’s basement we’re fired by the same gun.
Now talking about the shells found by Becky’s body and the shells found in Tim’s basement. “I determined the 8 casings (found by Becky) and 27 of 54 casings (found in basement) were shot fire by the same firearm.”
Schnack asks Reels about comparing the shells.
Schnack: “You did not compare all 8 casings and compare them to each of the 27 cases?”
Reels: “There was no need to.”
Schnack asks about the different guns tested and Reels said she did not test the gun that fired the shots.
Jones discusses a peer review process and Reels said the process confirmed her findings.
