1) Can we start by saying we ALL want to see the federal budget reduced MASSIVELY? And can we agree that McCarthy did NOT do a good job on this, and that he should be resisted by the Freedom Caucus?

2) That said, some budget realities:
3) Here are the components of the national debt (separate from the annual or bi-annual budget). As you can see, Medicare & SS comprise 46% of the debt; interest another 8%; and if you include "income security," you're up to 72% that is basically "off the table." Image
4) Lest I am misunderstood, I think ALL of it should be up for slashing: SS starting with new generations so that existing promises are not broken. Obviously if we cut the debt bigly, the interest payments will fall accordingly.
5) However, working with that 28%, if my calculator works correctly, Congress has approximately $1.2 trillion in which to cut. That includes defense and "all other" (fed roads, highways, customs, parks, security, employees, blah, blah).
6) Are you seeing the problem? Even if McCarthy was serious about doing something, and even if he got everything he wanted, it would be a drop in the bucket. Say, 10% cuts across the board and you've reduced the Fed Annual Budget from $3.61 trillion to $3.48 trillion.
7) I'll say again: i'd be fine with cuts of 30% or more. But given that anything is a negotiation with a hostile senate and an imbecilic Mo-ron Rutabaga who drools, no way we even get 10%.

8) Here, and I say this as a MAGA fan, Trump is wrong and DeSantis is right.
9) SS and Medicare SHOULD be on the table---but politically Trump is right and DeSantis is stupid. You wouldn't even win FL with all its retirement centers if you came out with that.

10) Such a revolutionary overhaul "can" be undertaken under the following conditions:
11) You need a president not running for another term (Trump).
You need a committed House AND Senate, willing to be removed at next election.
You need a president willing to break a promise not to address this---because it must be addressed.
12) After the dust settles, if the pols survive that long, interest rates would plummet; confidence in the US economy would skyrocket; the dollar would sweep out the BRICS pelts they are trading with. The U.S. would be as it was in 1945: untouchable.

1) This is a very important issue, question, and sadly it's not just "they won't." They can't quit woke for some structural reasons that I will explain below:
2) This, as do all important subjects, actually is symptomatic of problems in even higher places. "Why didn't Trump get better people?" This was/remains a constant attack against Trump.

3) Who exactly? Let's just start with the sublime: say, right now, Trump is to . . .
3) contd. . . choose his next AG. Who would you pick? I know who I'd pick: @barnes_law.
Great. Now about that Senate confirmation.

Bobby would get as far as I would for Secretary of Defense. Now you start down your list. You know where you end up?

4) The Federalist Society

1) Ringo Starr and his All Star Band was a solid concert. Not Styx. But sound playing of dozens of hits. The All Star Band consisted of Steve Lukather (Toto), Colin Hay (Men at Work), Hamish Stuart (Average White Band), and Edgar Winter, plus drummer Greg Bissonette & Warren Ham.
2) They would alternate hits, with Ringo leading with many of his Beatles songs, Edgar Winter doing "Free Ride" and "Frankenstein," Colin Hay doing "Man Down Under," and Lukather doing "Rosanna" and "Africa."

3) Ringo got some of his most pronounced reactions from what . . .
3) contd . . . in the Beatles' days would have been considered "gimmick" songs like "Yellow Submarine" or "Octopuses' Garden," where everyone sang along.

4) He played drums through perhaps 75% of the show & it was a joy to see this 82 year-old guy nail the beat.

1) Read between the lines. Something is happening inside DemoKKKrat lunacy circles.

2) Rutabaga re-implemented something like Title 42. Why?

3) It's clear that the 3 adults still in the DemoKKKrat Party are panicking big time.

3) They could see this wouldn't be popular AT ALL
4) By "this" I mean even MORE illegal flooding than we already have.

5) But also, 2 days ago Gov. Greg Abbott announced he would continue bussing illegals to sanctuary cities.

6) El Paso already started shipments to New Kabul (NYC).

7) These hellholes are already collapsing.
8) Had a discussion with a very liberal guy who was concerned about the zone in Portland. "Why don't they do what Phoenix did--Would that work?"

9) ME: for a short time but the underlying terrible policies aren't going away & they never say what they are doing with them

@RaiderMatt5204 1) As were all. But you know what? if you look closely at his margin of error---which is all any pollster can provide---he was 100% accurate. All we want to hear are Ws and Ls, but pollsters only give you a range, and he is still the most accurate.
@RaiderMatt5204 2) But I'll play. To my knowlege there isn't a single poll out there showing RDS beating Trump for the nomination. They all magically and mysteriously jump to a general, which won't happen.

ALL pollsters have Trump over RDS 20-40, ditto every state except FL and GA.
@RaiderMatt5204 3) And I'll play more: the book "The Great Revolt" by Salena Zito, which no RDSer has even read, interviewed thousands of Trump voters in 2017-18.

They found that a very sizeable group of these (in the neighborhood of 10-15%) had never voted before or hadn't voted in last 3.

1. This was Ron's terrible, horrible, not-very-good week.

2. First, there was a Palm Beach donor dinner where one said "the brakes are pumped" on RDS.

3. Then came the "Panic Performance" in Japan where he had the bobble-head & wild eyes.
4. Then came the British business luncheon where "Politico" described him as "DeTedious" and busnesses called the performance "horrendous" and "low wattage."

5. All that came on top of last week's donors confab where major BigBucks backed out, some going straight to Trump.
6. I haven't even mentioned the polling. RDS's insider pollster can concoct a NATIONAL poll presumably showing him leading the Rutabaga, but can't produce one single state poll showing him beating Trump.

7) Meanwhile the Trumpster had solid TV shows everywhere.

1) This is something we all need to remember. Politics is politics. If you are "nice" & "civil" you get utterly stomped on.

2) American politics have ALWAYS been uncivil. A man threatened to beat James Monroe with his walking stick in the Oval Office.
3) In 1936, FDR mercilessly ladled out money in specific districts only to beat Rs. In the 1960 primary, JFK's dad did the same thing to fellow Ds.

4) Name calling, jibes, these are nothing. Just part of the rough and tumble.
5) Personally, I don't want a sissy who can't take some body slams & get back up. Of course, NO ONE has been hit as hard as Trump. I'm waiting to see Kathy Giffold hold up RDS's severed head.

6) While I appreciate the strategy of RDS hiding as a "non-candidate" while campaiging
