Rumors have #MUFC looking to sell Antony Elanga this season. This is a topic I have had a strong opinion on all season. Why? A🧵.👇
I like Antony Elanga a lot, as a proud Swede, and I think his play this season to a large extent has been marred by poor confidence. But I 100% think he should be sold, not loaned out. Why? He does not at all fit into ETH's system. (2/n) Image
As illustrated above, what set Pep's style apart, which ETH is heavily influenced by after working with Pep in Bayern's organization and also employs, is the use of the wide wingers and inverting FBs. This is a radical changes from the inverting w:s and overlapping FBs. (3/n)
Why have this change been made? It is about creating safe passing options in the transition phase. It is simple, if you move a lot of players up and can pin the opponent down you get a massive advantage. The problem is getting there. What is the best option to get up pitch? (4/n)
With a CB on the ball, a player starting high up pitch moving towards the ball -- is naturally much harder to press than the player looking at the ball over his shoulder moving up pitch. The defending LB/RB simply cannot get to the ball if the white passes below are made.(5/n) Image
This set very specific requirements on a ETH winger. Since the most important ability for this player is to be able to take a pass from a CB, and then move the ball up pitch, (a) you want the RW to be left footed and the LW to be right footed. (6/n)
(b) The winger must also be able to take a pass with a defender on his back, and shield the ball. I.e. be strong on the ball. (c) And you want the winger to be smart on the ball, have a lot of playmaking ability. Does Bernado Silva and Graelish tic these boxes? To a T. (7/n) Image
Does Antony? Definitely. Does Rashford? Nah, but ETH has made a big adjustment accommodating Rashford, who plays more like an inside forward. (8/n)
Before we cover Elanga, lets first touch upon the yellow squares on each side high up pitch, which are a huge part of this tactic. Since we do not populate these areas, but press hard with centralized runs, the opponent cannot zone mark them. If one of our...(9/n) Image
...players initiate a run ensuring him to beat any opponent into the square -- we can safely put a pass into it. How many times haven't seen KDB pop into these open squares, and then deliver an assist from there? Too many. (10/n)
So over to Antony Elanga. He is just and will not within many years be a player who fits that mold. And if he did, it would be at LW. And honestly, Pellestri is also not a great fit at RW either. The white lines indicate the passing options the RW must be able to make..(11/n) Image
...after taking a pass from the CB and with a defender pressing him hard from behind. This is why its so important to have a left foot at RW. This is also why I am more or less certain that Sancho never will push Antony out of the squad at RW for any longer stretches. (11/n)
Antony Elanga is a pretty common player type, explosive, technical, hard working. Many teams put them on the wing, kind of like a "raumdeuter" almost. Antony Gordon is another example. In ETH's system -- these guys just don't have a spot on the wing. 3-5 years ago,...(12/n)
...I am fairly certain that someone sits Elanga down and tells him that long term, they see him as FB. Its there or at striker, that you can play in ETH's system if you aren't a really creative and skilled player. Or in case of emergency, AMC. (13/n)
For me its not about Elanga not having "any" chance to become a player for us. But it would take a huge investment, I cannot see the cost for that in terms of affording the player growth time etc worth it. (14/14)

🚨💣Chelsea FC is reportedly forced to sell players, not only because their squad is too big, but to comply with the FFP rules of the PL and UEFA. Can we verify if this is the case? And if so, how much must they sell for? And by when? A 🧵. 👇 Image
Long technical 🧵, so a "Summary":
(a) Best guess is that CFC must sell players for app. 30-60m before 30 June under PL rules, but it is very hard to say with any certainty.
(b) It seems to be almost a certainty that CFC will breach UEFA rules in 24'.
(Contin.) Summary:
(c) Instead of no player signings this summer (alongside the massive sales), they might opt to make that breach in 2024 fully aware that they then must get their finance in order with no leeway under UEFA orders during the period between 2025-2028.

🚨This 🧵takes a look at potential scenarios for MUFC's the summer transfer window and analyze the FFP impact of different alternatives. Sometimes described as a circus, there isn't a champion in modern time that hasn't been built on transfers. Some interesting stuff 👇.💣(1/51)
To analyze a club’s transfer window, many questions must be answered. What is the transfer budget? How much can the club spend on different squad positions? Long-term depth chart. What type of players are the club looking at? Which players can the club get?(2/51) Image
Under FFP, I think a reasonable target number is that we can build towards a squad that can cost “£504m” per season in amortization and salaries with today’s transfer prices and going rates for wages. This could enable a squad constructed in according with the below.(3/51) Image

🚨 Several sources have lately reported that #MUFC's transfer budget will be just £100m due to "FFP" reasons -- besides what can be raised from from player sales. In this 🧵 we look at the reason for this and how we could potentially spend up towards 300m (!) with player sales.💣 Image
Under the new "FFP" rules, UEFA's Financial Sustainability Regulation (i.e. "FSR") United's spending can be limited by two rules, the Football Earnings Rule and the Squad Cost Rule. (2/n) Image
These rules are a part of a licensing system, so when UEFA decides if we can play in Europe one season, it looks at our financial performance the prev. seasons. So what we spend this summer before the 23/24 season, will impact if we will be licensed for the 24/25 season. (3/n) Image

If Barca has paid absurd sums of money in an absurd way to the person making these kind of reports on single referees -- deciding their future -- I wonder if it is not the nail in the coffin for the Club in its current shape. These are recent events, (1/n)
...just getting a slap on the fingers in terms of suspension from the CL for 2 years cannot be enough, and with Barca's debt situation, that alone seems like a death stroke. So what is the background? Very brief: It is undisputed that Barca paid €7,000,000 to the VP of ...
the La Liga referee body. To keep the payments of Barca's books, the money was first paid to a third party who forwarded them to this person (his name is Negreira). There were no written agreement forming the basis for the payments. When Negreira retired, (3/n)

(1/18) Conflicting reports from the Athletics have Ineos’ bid for #MUFC “only” resulting in that no new debt being loaded onto the club, while Bloomberg reports that Ineos’ banks “would cover MU’s debt of around $800 million”. In this 🧵, we look at how the debt will be handled. Image
(2/18) This is the debt the Club have, and the debt consists of issued (1) Senior Secured Notes, (2) a Loan Facility and (3) Revolving Facility. Image
(3/18) The Senior Secured Notes include this Change of Control (CoC) Clause. Hence, if anyone acquire more than 50% of the shares of MUFC plc, a CoC mechanism is triggered. Image

(1/22) A big topic lately is if #MUFC need an owner with ‘super wealth’, like Qatar, or if the club could get back to the top if owned (indirectly) by one of the wealthiest individuals in the UK, Sir Jim Ratcliffe. The answer is given in this 🧵.
(2/22) But wait a minute, some will say, we do not know what a SJR ownership will pertain. Some details about his bid are known, but it is true that others aren’t. However, looking at what we know and the context, filling in the blanks shouldn’t be impossible at this point.
(3/22) So we will start at looking at how much MUFC can spend today, we will then look at how much we could spend if we are bought by SJR, and lastly we will contextualize that by comparing it with our rivals.
