The claims were dubious enough that then-AG Barr directed that they be reviewed by a US attorney in Pittsburgh, in part because Barr was concerned that Giuliani’s document tranche could taint the ongoing Hunter Biden investigation overseen by the Delaware US attorney.
Former Pittsburgh US Attorney Scott Brady oversaw the FBI investigation of the Giuliani claims. The document being demanded by Comer is among the products of that probe.
While the document outlines claims from the informant, it doesn’t provide proof they are true, per sources.

NEWS: Special counsel John Durham concluded that the FBI should never have launched a full investigation into connections between Trump's campaign & Russia during 2016 election, per a report compiled over 3 years & released Monday.
Durham's findings are at odds with a previous DOJ inspector general investigation, which identified problems with the FBI's Russia probe but concluded in December 2019 there was sufficient justification to open the inquiry.
Durham, however, did not recommend any new charges against individuals or "wholesale changes" to how the FBI handles politically sensitive investigations, despite strongly criticizing the agency's behavior.
Scoop: Trump's former national security adviser Robert O’Brien has been subpoenaed by special counsel Jack Smith in both the Mar-a-Lago documents investigation & probe related to efforts to overturn 2020 election, source tells me.
He previously testified before 1/6 committee.
O’Brien has been asserting executive privilege in declining to provide some info prosecutors are seeking from him, the source said.
Trump's former acting DHS chief Chad Wolf was interviewed by DOJ lawyers in recent weeks as part of special counsel probe, 2 sources also confirm.
For the time being, Smith has not sought testimony from a handful of other potentially relevant senior Trump’s officials, including former Secretary of Defense Christopher Miller & former Director of National Intelligence John Ratcliffe, two other sources tell CNN.
DOJ tells top lawmakers on Senate Intel Committee (Warner & Rubio) it is "actively working" with ODNI to enable sharing of info about Trump/Biden classified docs "without harming the ongoing Special Counsel investigations," per letter obtained by CNN.
DOJ letter responds to Senate Intel Committee's August request for info "about the potential risk to national security" posed by documents recovered from Trump's Mar-a-Lago residence & follow-up inquiries re classified material found Biden properties.
"As you know, we worked in good faith to schedule a briefing in September 2022. Since that time, there have been significant developments, including the appointment of two separate Special Counsels to handle the respective matters," the DOJ letter states.
Authorities say former FBI special agent in charge agreed to provide services to Russian oligarch Oleg Deripaska, including investigating rival Russian oligarch in return for concealed payments.
Deripaska's name emerged in Mueller probe due to longstanding ties to Paul Manafort.
"McGonigal & Shestakov were aware that their actions violated US sanctions because, among other reasons, while serving as SAC, McGonigal received then-classified information that Deripaska would be added to a list of oligarchs considered for sanctions ..." justice.gov/opa/pr/former-…
News: Trump's WH Chief of Staff -- Mark Meadows -- was texting Phil Waldron in late December 2020 about his attempts to gain access to voting systems in key battleground states, starting w/ Arizona & Georgia, per messages obtained by CNN.
It is noteworthy that Waldron's December 23 text to Meadows appears to refer to a ruling on the lawsuit in Arizona he'd been working on directly with friendly state lawmakers there.
Waldron's proposal in this email, obtained by @weareoversight, is particularly interesting ...
