Kottayam-based nun made a fervent appeal to Vatican’s representative in India,
seeking justice in her 7 page letter.
She said that Franco is having “eagle’s eye” on a few other MJ sisters & that 20 sisters have left the org.

After getting no help from the Chcurch, Nuns approached Kerala Police.
FIR was lodged against Franco Mulakkal.
21 Sept, 2018: @policektm arrested bishop & remanded him to judicial custody.
Finally, he was temporarily relieved of from diocese by @Pontifex.

Trial started.
A total of 39 people – mostly nuns of Missionaries of Jesus convent in Kuravilangad, Kottayam – stepped forward as witnesses in the case.
Surprisingly, court restrained media from publishing the trial of the case.

Dismissing the female clergy en masse as power mongers, Judge shockingly observed:
The in-fight and rivalry and group fights of the nuns, and the desire for power, position and control over the congregation is evident in this case.

Other observations: 1. The police could not find the phone to which the bishop allegedly sent messages to the victim. 2. Police told the court that the mobile phone was disposed of by some scrap dealer and they couldn't trace it.

3. The laptop used by the survivor was also not produced before the court. 4. Franco’s phone was not submitted by him to disprove allegations that he sent her messages while saying that it had been disposed of.

Despite none of the victims turning hostile, their testimonies were dismissed as either unreliable or ill-motivated by Kottayam Additional Sessions judge, G Gopakumar.
He also acquitted Franco Mulakkal of sexual assault charges.

State of Kerala has appealed against the decision before the High Court.
2023:
Pope Francis has accepted the resignation submitted by the Rt. Rev. Franco Mulakkal as Bishop of Jalandhar.

The land in question was historically used as a burial ground by Hindus but was closed by the municipality in 1867 due to health concerns, with an alternative site allocated for burials.

Since it was a burial ground anymore, Hindus purchased the land at a valuable price.
Sometime later, Muslims started claiming burial rights of the land.
They even formed a committe named-
Salim Muslim Burial Ground Protection Committee.
Manipur has 3 major ethnical groups: 1. Meitei 2. Naga 3. Kuki
Meitei are mostly Hindus while
Naga & Kuki follows Christianity.
The current ongoing violence at Manipur is by Christian Naga and Kuki against Hindu Meitei.

Religious Population:
Hindu ~ 50%
Christian ~ 35-40%
Since religion doesn’t matter for declaration under Scheduled Tribe,
Meitei approached High Court of Manipur seeking reservation in Scheduled Tribe category.

Stone pelting and torching of vehicles were done during Hindu festival to create #RamNavamiViolence.

She later blamed Hindus:
I’ve said it earlier that violence may occur if you take out #RamNavami rally through Muslim areas.
She also said:
Muslims observe #Ramzan & cannot be involved in wrongdoing.

Calcutta High Court directed West Bengal govt to deploy adequate @WBPolice force in the affected areas where incidents of violence took place during the #RamNavami procession so that peace and tranquillity prevail.
2012: Kiran Negi, a 19-year-old girl from Uttarakhand was abducted & forced into a Tata Indica from Chhawla, Delhi by 3 men-
Rahul, Ravi & Vinod
She was gang-raped & brutalised.
Her mutilated & decomposed body was found days later in mustard field of Rodai village, Haryana. 1/4
Police seized the car & nabbed all three.
2014: A Sessions Court in Delhi convicted the 3 men of gang-rape, murder & causing disappearance of evidence & sentenced them to death.
August 2014: Delhi High Court confirmed Capital Punishment by calling the crime-“rarest of rare” 2/4
Nov 2022: Supreme Court acquitted all 3 men who were sentenced to death #ChhawlaMurder & released them by saying- cannot punish accused persons on the basis of moral conviction.
@LtGovDelhi granted approval to file review challenging the acquittal of death row convicts.
