One more extraordinary person has been taken from us by the war. With great sorrow we inform you about the death of our comrade, left-wing journalist and popularizer of science Yevheniy Osiyevskyi. Zhenia died on 22 May near #Bakhmut
The beginning of the war caught him at a university dormitory in Vorzel, a town near #Bucha, Hostomel and Irpin. So he spent the first two weeks under occupation and wrote an excellent piece about it👇 commons.com.ua/en/dva-tizhni-…
Later he joined the Armed Forces of Ukraine
Zhenia was an incredibly talented & energetic person. A true idealist & a dreamer. When he wanted to write a good reportage article, he’d get immersed in the life of people he was interested in for several months. He once completed several Scientology levels for a reportage…
He was planning a trip to the Vanuatu islands in the Pacific. His plans were disrupted first by COVID, and then by the war
Zhenia is gone, but he has left behind many good memories, many friends, and a great legacy: a whole series of amazingly interesting articles full of witty humor and literary talent. You can read them on the websites of @commonscomua and @kunshtmagazine
On May 30, Zhenia was buried in his hometown, Kropyvnytsky.
He is survived by his mother. If you want to support Zhenia’s mum, here is her card: 4731219643733987

Today we want to tell you about another comrade of ours who was killed in action on 19.04.2023, Finbar Cafferkey, aka Heval Çîya.
He was a deeply committed comrade who always put struggle and his love for others first. He was funny, kind and loved fully and openly
Finbar was an internationalist who worked and fought against state and capital. He saw past superficial contradictions and dilemmas that might paralyze others and appreciated instead the complexity of the world. One can be both discerning and decisive, as he was
Çîya came to 🇺🇦 when the full-scale war began to help the anti-authoritarian volunteer movement. He regularly delivered humanitarian aid, cars for frontlines from 🇵🇱 to 🇺🇦, with the ACK Galicja and the XVX Tacticaid. Brought some night visions for GNIP
On April 19, in a battle on the outskirts of #Bakhmut, 3 of our comrades, international volunteers, were killed.
We’ll tell you about each of them.
We’ll start with our close friend & convinced anarchist Dmytro Petrov aka Illia Leshyi
Dmytro had a PhD in History and was an anthropologist. He was active in all protest events in Russia, particularly the protest on Bolotnaya Square. And in 2014, he supported the Maidan
In 2017, Dmytro went to Kurdistan, where he spent time researching the Kurdish experience of self-organization and the struggle for free society. The result was a book on Rojava. He continued to support Rojava even from the frontline in Donbas
