Johnson has been trying to conceal his early messages for a LONG time.

The claim he had "handed them all over" was always going to be false.

As false as @RishiSunak claiming to be "fully complying"

He gets away with it because they are ALL hiding

It is not unreasonable to hand over all documentation to the covid inquiry, unredacted.

Baroness Hallett is the competent body to redact information to protect the innocent & irrelevant - not the cabinet office.

The cabinet office may well be complicit & is shown to be leaky.
Be assured, Johnson has played a devious game here.

He COULD have handed the materials directly to the inquiry (there is no requirement to hand to the cabinet office).

This false nonsense would then never have arisen.

He chose not to.
He chose to put the cabinet office front & centre of the story - and then pull the rug out from under them by saying he would hand over to the inquiry directly if asked.

And that the cabinet office has had access to the information for "several months"

This is the "What if?" tweet.

Twitter is abuzz with why Johnson doesn't want his WhatsApp messages going to the covid inquiry.

But Johnson himself says he has not been asked for them by the Cabinet Office and is happy to provide them.

What if the question is "What doesn't the Cabinet Office want to be seen?"

I doubt it is dodgy PPE deals - we all know about that, and they have crap reasons that allow them to get away with how they were awarded.

It is unlikely to be jokey Tory messages - they would be irrelevant in the eyes of the inquiry (but ammunition in the public eyes)

So, what if it is that the messages show up planned decisions AGAINST the best interests of the public?

Designed to "allow" people to go back to work by providing ADDITIONAL income

This would TOP UP salaries, so "allowing" single parents to pay for childcare to return to work etc.

A noble intent & sentiment - IF pure in the sense of understanding the key words.

But why is topping up stagnant salaries via the treasury seen as the ideal solution?

Why not simply impose a minimum wage at a level where people could afford to live?

That would put money back into their OWN hands.

Autonomous financial units, beholden to nobody.
