coming from the direction of their shared bedroom.
Price was putting Annabelle to bed again, like he always did for most nights of the week.
Simon was sure the man was going to move in sooner or later, but he didn’t know how Nikolai felt about it.
There was no way all four
of them were going to fit into this single bedroom apartment.
It was tiny.
Simon rubbed the back of his neck as he walked further into the apartment, catching Price just as he was coming out of the bedroom.
“Is she asleep?” He asked, stifling a yawn as he attempted to look
over Price’s shoulder into the darkness of the room.
“Yeah.” Price nodded. “Where were you? You were later than usual.” He asked, his brow furrowed ever so slightly.
“I uh…” Simon blinked awkwardly, turning away from the older man to walk into the kitchen. “I went
to check on the neighbour.”
“For a little head bump?” Price teased, joining him in the kitchen as Simon pulled two beers from the fridge.
“You know as well as I do that it could have been more than just a little head bump.” Simon sighed, shaking his head slightly. “And
Bellie has taken a liking to him.”
Price narrowed his eyes at the other man, raising the bottle to his lips as he contemplated what to say next.
Simon just rolled his eyes.
“Out with it.” He demanded. “I know you have something to say.”
“Just admit it.”
Price teased. “You’re warming up to him.”
“I am not. I’m doing what’s best for my daughter.” Simon responded easily. “Nothing more, nothing less.”
“Or maybe you want to be friends with him cause you realised he wasn’t that bad and you’re using your daughter as an excuse.”
Price fired back, raising his brows at the other man. As if he was daring him to try and prove him wrong.
“I do not want to be friends with him.” Simon huffed, turning away from his old captain, unable to meet his eyes.
Price just let out a hearty laugh, taking another swig
from his beer bottle.
“Sure you don’t.” He grinned, before a rather sympathetic look passed his face. “I know you haven’t met or befriended anyone new since Anastasia left you and Bells, but you can’t be alone forever, Si. It’s okay to let people in.”
Simon screwed his
face up at the older man.
“I have you and Gary.”
“Your co-workers don’t count.” Price said, putting the beer bottle down on the counter. “Will you at least try?”
“I’m worried.” Simon finally admitted. “I don’t want to bring someone into her life that might leave. Her mom-“
“Her mom left you, Si.” Price interrupted. “Bells never met her, you know that.”
Simon hissed, a rather annoyed frown plastering itself on his face.
Price could always see right through him and he was right.
He wasn’t worried about Annabelle. Well he was, because he always was
But the thought of getting close to someone again just for them to leave terrified Simon.
He didn’t want to put himself in that situation again.
“It’s been five years, kiddo.” Price continued. “I know you’re scared, I know. But I also know that you’re one of the bravest
men I know. You run into fires for a living. I know you can do this.”
Simon took a swig of his beer, staring at the other man for a long moment before letting out a defeated sigh.
“Fine. I’ll hang out with him once. But that’s it.”
Price clapped his hands happily, moving to pat the younger man on the shoulder.
“Good, cause I already invited them to the fire station this weekend.”
“For crew drinks? Dude, are you serious?!” Simon asked, almost choking on his beer.
“Uh, yeah.” Price nodded, before he
turned to grab his bag. “I’ll see you tomorrow!”
“John! John!” Simon attempted to call out to his friend but Price was gone in the blink of an eye, leaving him standing alone in the kitchen.
Simon stood there for a long moment, staring off into space.
Some part of his soul felt almost excited about this. He had been so guarded for the last five years, he was almost… anticipating it.
He hated he felt his way, to be honest.
He promised that after Anastasia he would never let someone that close again.
But…
A little couldn’t hurt right?

GO FOR IT BABY!
Also sorry for any mistakes today my hands ARE SO COLLLLLD
Annabelle frowned from where she was standing next to her dad, holding tightly onto his pant leg as she waited for him to finish saying goodbye to Uncle Gary.
They were standing out in the hallway, and talking for SO long. Annabelle was getting more
They always talked for ages when one of them were supposed to leave, Annabelle wondered why they didn’t just stay!
The little girl huffed angrily, about to make her annoyance known to her father when something else caught her eye.
Soap and Kyle were stumbling up the stairs at the end of the hall. Neither of them could stay upright for more than a few seconds and they kept breaking into hysterics.
Annabelle was VERY confused.
It was like, very early in the morning! What could be so funny??
Simon found himself thrashing back and forth in his bed that night. Throwing the sheets off of himself before pulling them back on. Lying on his back. On his stomach. On his side.
“Oh come on, asshole! Pick up! You’re never away from your phone!”
Johnny’s loud, annoyed voice pierced through the calm, gentle atmosphere of the apartment he had apparently forgotten he had shared with another human being.
“What the hell is with all this shouting?” Kyle asked as he walked into the lounge, only to find his best friend sat on the ground, multiple laptops strewn at his feet. “Is that my laptop? Why the hell do you have my laptop?!”
“I need it. For research.” Johnny fired back
easily, not even looking up at his friend as Kyle moved to sit on the couch above him.
“Research? What kind of research?” He asked, cradling the cup of tea he had in his hands.
“I need to figure out what-“ Johnny started to say, but he quickly cut himself off as he threw a
“And then they all lived happily ever after.” Price sighed, closing the book he was reading for the third time that night. “Okay, time for bed little butterfly.”
“But I’m not tired!” The five year old whined, kicking her legs and proceeding to untuck
A small groan escaped Johnny’s lips as he finally shut his phone off in an attempt to sleep, but quickly became aware of the sunlight peeking through the curtains.
“More than necessary.” Simon huffed angrily from where he was sitting on the floor, currently attempting to fit another lock on the door. “You would think this would be easy.” He muttered under his breath.
