Let us be realistic here and treat things like they should be treated - objectively. What we saw today was a probe that for some reason evolved into the screening assault. There are 3 levels of attack that should be distinguished.
1. Probe
2. Recon in force
3. Screening assault.
1. Probe is a hit-and-run attack on the enemy by troops primarily to discover the location of the defending troops. It is done with a very small mobile group that has the task of simply provoking defenders to action in order to reveal what is the readiness of the defender.
2. Recon in force is the type of attack where a significant number of troops are sent in the attack (much more than the simple probe) in order to not only locate places of concentration and composition of the troops but to engage them in a protracted battle before the retreat.
This allows the attacker to ascertain the full composition of the defender, locate fire support assets and prepare viable plans for assault in the future, by analyzing all of the aspects of the defender's behavior during the battle (response time, fire support availability, etc.)
3. Screening assault is the prelude to a full attack on the enemy positions. In a way, it can be an introduction to a full assault on the enemy or an attack on the enemy positions that are not on the axis of the main assault in order to anchor/tie down the enemy to a position.
It is mostly used to pint-point all of the enemy fire points, support assets, and locations of the fortifications so that they can be destroyed by troops committed to the full assault that follows or by the fire support assets that are allocated to support the said main assault.
A big problem can arise if the enemy has decided to implement not static but flexible defences where the first line of defence is not committed to the defence of the section of the front but is meant just to act as the "tripwire" for committing the friendly reserve to the area.
That means that the action will not reveal the real disposition of the defending troops but misinform the commander that the portion of the front is very weak and have him commit the troops to the wrong place because "even initial screening is already yielding the results"!
In addition - it can in fact be an extremely dangerous turn of events because it will reveal to the defender axis of the assault and have him commit the troops to the right place. From Sun Tzu to this day there is a military rule "If your attack is going too well - it is a trap".
In modern warfare, this type of defense is, in fact, the only viable defense considering that any pitched battle defending a static fortification is heavily problematic (which is a major paradox-to be honest) for the defender considering the precision of modern support assets.
With all of the PGM, drone-corrected artillery fire, and satellites reckon only the suicidal idiot stays in the initial positions once coming under a sustained attack. You need to move, relocate, and even give up territory if needed to survive, persist and be able to fight back.
While in WW1 and WW2 you would dig in to survive - in modern warfare if you dig in, and remain there, you are just "helping the undertaker" (he only has to fill up the grave).
With precision munition and artillery drone correction to remain static - is to die very quickly!
If and when the offensive of either side starts we might see large successes of the attacker in the initial days of the attack. The reason for this is a simple fact - both sides of the conflict have learned the quality of mobile defense from Zukov's blunder at Seelow Heights.

@imetatronink I already elaborated on the whole SEAD efforts in detail here
@imetatronink Now to add some situation-specific things here.
1. Biggest asset of Ukraine is in fact NATO ISR ability that Russia can't destroy without direct conflict with NATO (especially because AWAKS-type platforms are manned and shooting them down would kill a large number of personnel)!
@imetatronink 2/
But, the greatest asset comes with a flaw. That flaw is the fact that stand-off ISR assets (AWAKS does need to fly outside of Ukraine) can't detect small flying drones at those distances, Additionally unlike in Puba's party where aerial decoys were "harmless" - Gerans are NOT.

@LeifNordh @cirnosad @IvanBuchanJanus The problem is not ... nor has ever been the quality of individual pieces of equipment. In all the cases you listed it is two things that are lacking. Number of systems and ammo for all these systems.
I already wrote several threads about this.
@LeifNordh @cirnosad @IvanBuchanJanus Especially problematic is the Western notion of force multipliers (HIMARS/EXCALIBUR precision-guided ammo) that simply fail to work according to the specification!
"The theory" is that "non-westerners" need hundreds of od shells (exercises have shown 50-100) to destroy a tank.
@LeifNordh @cirnosad @IvanBuchanJanus Again theory is that Western armies have PGMs that reduce that to 1-2. So West stopped producing dumb shells and started producing PGMs (BTW ... to be a clear sound logic - perfectly logical decision - I am not opposing that).
BUT for every action - there is a reaction.

All those who know how to look can already see a pattern.
We can call it "Four Phase Hybrid Warfare" by Russians using missile strikes.
Phase 1: Russia conducts the biggest attack ever. Never seen a number of killer drones and cruise missiles attack targets all over Ukraine.
Phase 2: In the days after the attack Russia reduces the number of missiles fired in the following days. In time Ukrainian AD assets are repositioned to those 1-2 sites that are constantly/repeatedly attacked and are OFC successful at shooting down all missiles directed at them.
Phase 3: World media/intelligence agencies claim Russia is running out of missiles and the AD help West is sending is finally catching up to the level of threat Russian attacks pose. Everybody is happy to send more AD to make sure that the missile threat is fully neutralized.

Regarding FTX / crypto collapse.
In the same way that definitions "murder" and "multiple murder" simply do not cover or validly represent crimes like genocide and ethnic cleansing, "scam" / "fraud" / "hoax" simply does not cover enough of the damages done by some people.
As for war crimes, crimes against humanity, and genocide, there should be an international court for economic mass crimes and financial destruction. Especially because the extent of damage to the world economy and population of the world is - SAME
Banishing 1000s of people from their homes at gunpoint, destroying their property, and leaving them without means to survive due to ethnic hatred or destroying their finances and livelihood in the cause of frauding them for me is the same thing and should be punished accordingly.

For 9 months now people have been talking about it (you can see my past threads) and NOTHING was done about it in the West. Why? When will West stop hiding behind "unwilling" as the lesser-evil-excuse and start admitting that it is utterly incapable?
cnbc.com/2022/10/22/wea…
Not to mention that hard decisions need to be made very quickly.
- By the end of October (first half of November if stretched to the breaking point) Ukraine will lose its ability to adequately support soviet era artillery systems.
- There is already a shortage of AD ammunition for soviet era systems, while at the same time western ones have an ammo complement that is meant/designed for the use as the backup measure (for vast and superior airforce component of NATO forces) NOT as the main AD means!

Suppression of Enemy Air Defences (SEAD) is an activity as old as air defense itself. The point of the SEAD is to prevent the destruction of air assets by the anti-aircraft (ground or air-based) systems of the enemy (especially manned air assets). But - what about unmanned?
The first use of unmanned assets was in the First Gulf War. The so-called "Poobah's Party" (named after Gen.Larry Henry - call sign Poobah) happened on the first night of the Desert Storm and was the effort of Coalition forces to suppress the integrated air defense system of Iraq
Integrated defensive systems have a "nasty feature" that they exchange information between components of the system. This means that one radar can detect and track the target, another radar can continue that tracking, and the third can be used for guidance of the AA gun / missile
