I've been watching the outrage re the pride flag seen on the set of #TheChosen, and after waking up with a question in my heart, I have thoughts.

The question: If *they* are not invited to the table, how then do we reach *them*?

/1
Then this scripture came to mind:

MATTHEW 22

The Parable of the Great Feast

1 Jesus also told them other parables. He said,

2 “The Kingdom of Heaven can be illustrated by the story of a king who prepared a great wedding feast for his son.

/2
3 When the banquet was ready, he sent his servants to notify those who were invited. But they all refused to come!

4 “So he sent other servants to tell them, ‘The feast has been prepared. Bulls & fattened cattle have been killed, everything is ready. Come to the banquet!’

/3
5 But the guests he had invited ignored them and went their own way, one to his farm, another to his business.

6 Others seized his messengers and insulted them and killed them.

/4
7 “The king was furious, and he sent out his army to destroy the murderers and burn their town.

8 And he said to his servants, ‘The wedding feast is ready, and the guests I invited aren’t worthy of the honor.

9 Now go out to the street corners & invite everyone you see.’

/5
10 So the servants brought in everyone they could find, good and bad alike, and the banquet hall was filled with guests.

11 “But when the king came in to meet the guests, he noticed a man who wasn’t wearing the proper clothes for a wedding.

/6
12 ‘Friend,’ he asked, ‘how is it that you are here without wedding clothes?’ But the man had no reply.

13 Then the king said to his aides, ‘Bind his hands and feet and throw him into the outer darkness, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.’

/7
14 “For many are called, but few are chosen.”

My thoughts: The fact that the producers have invited *all* to the table does not negate Jesus' message spread through the production.

/8
Jesus alone will sift and winnow those that have been found to be wearing "the proper attire" and those who are not.

Meantime, all are invited to the table. They just won't be invited to the kitchen to cook the banquet meal.

I have an embarrassing admission: I wake up every morning feeling old & abandoned. Like, how did I work so hard for so long all those years, only to be struggling at this age? I believe I was amassing the wrong treasures. (Matt 6:19-20)

/1
But in today's Psalms, David hits the nail on the head for me: "In my old age, don't set me aside, Lord. Don't abandon me when my strength is failing." (Psalm 71:9)

In the margin beside the next verse ("for my enemies are whispering against me") I wrote: I am my own enemy.

/2
David continues: "But I will keep on hoping for you to help me." (Psalm 71:14). Thankfully, as down as I get on myself or the world at large, I never lose hope in the Lord.

Today's Bible verses includes one of the most disturbing & disheartening stories of King David, Uriah & his wife Bathsheba (2 Samuel 11:2-27).

Even though the Lord was angry with David for arranging to have Uriah killed in battle in order to make Bathsheba his own wife...

/1
...He still used it for His glory when He allowed Bathsheba to become pregnant w/Solomon.

We are then able to witness David's repentant heart as he fully acknowledges his sinful behavior & accepts the Lord's correction.

/2
Thru it all, David never loses hope nor faith that God is the one, true Lord.

This gives us hope that no matter where we've been, nor what we've done, the Lord loves us & forgives us if we surrender our hearts to Him. There will be consequences, but we'll get through them.

Looks like I was on track a few days ago for today's Bible study message. 🙌🙏
KINDNESS by Nicky Gumbel

Steve Sjogren wrote a book called "Conspiracy of Kindness". He started a church in Cincinnati, Ohio, that grew to an average attendance of over 7,000. Their motto is, "Small things done with great love are changing the world."

/2
They carry out random acts of kindness like paying for a stranger’s coffee or writing a "thank you" note to a shop assistant. Kindness is love in work clothes. Showing God’s love in practical ways, they have discovered the power of kindness to effect positive change...

After doing today's study, I thought of something.

It is always hard to keep hopeful during times of loss and hardship, but with the Lord, it is possible because we know there's a long-term plan God has in mind. We constantly bring our concerns & hopes to the Lord in prayer

/1
But...

Those without the Lord...how do they navigate the heartaches, the losses, the hardships? I find it difficult to fathom how people get through things on their own. Maybe they *don't* get through them. Maybe they just get better at masking their sorrow and pain.

/2
Or maybe they let the sorrow and plain eat them up until all that is shown to the world is a bitter frustration that nothing can soothe.

Except God.

He can soothe all wounds and pain and loss.

The Lord gives me 1 or 2 words every year to cling to or live by (or both). This year's words were "hope" & "boldness". I feel as tho I embraced them, & today's Bible study excerpt is a great summation of "hope."

I look forward to discovering 2023's words next week. :-)

HOW TO LIVE IN HOPE by Nicky Gumbel

In July 1999, Ralph Crathorne spoke at our church about the recent death of his eight-year-old daughter, Sasha, from a brain tumour.

/2
I remember so well going to visit Sasha in hospital. On the way, in the taxi, I was desperately trying to think and pray about what God would want me to say. Only one word came into my mind: hope.

As today's Advent devotional wraps up, I find myself taking stock of the year and my various "postures".

It has been one spent on bended knee, and standing with hands raised to the sky.

It has been one with head bent, tears flowing, asking "why?"

/1
It has been one spent singing praises to the one true God, thanking Him for all of the blessings and answered prayer for my friends IRL and here on Twitter.

/2
But the best posture for me was one of readiness, with an open heart, to do whatever and go wherever the Lord has guided me. Take time to listen to the music in this thread, and pray your own prayer, in your own posture.
