Hello designers!! Ever wonder what the heck an Apple Design Evangelist even does?? And yes I’m going to try to recruit you at the end of this🧵
Our small team is responsible for Apple’s design outreach, education, and community for everyone making apps and games on our platforms. We meet with everyone from indies to large companies with big design teams and give feedback on existing and up-and-coming designs.
We also work with official programs like Apple’s Entrepreneur Camps for female, Black, and Hispanic founders as well as Apple Developer Academies in Brazil, India, Indonesia, Italy and Detroit. In non-covid times we travel a lot!

(1/6) Are you a designer/developer curious about how your app’s menu bar will behave on those shiny new MacBook Pros? We’ve got some updated guidance!

Human Interface Guidelines:

(2/6) First off: The system will do its best to fit all menu bar items and avoid the camera housing. If you have a TON of stuff, some of the system menus on the right may hide and then your menu titles truncate Screenshot of the new camera housing and menubar UI on the 2
(3/6) Either way it’s still a great idea to keep menu bar titles short and consolidate menus when you can for usability’s sake! Hunting through a million menus is never fun even on pro software.

If I can prod into our design ethics bubble once and it ripples to this amount of debate – we’re definitely not talking about it enough. Some really great thought sharing:
1/ @Chik’s suggestions for how to bring societal impact into your design process
2/ @nrrrdcore and @briamazing’s thread about the privilege to leave jobs. This also reminds me of the hot debate about the environment as a luxury good.
