We all deserve to get enough to eat and get the medical care we need. The Senate leadership's proposed budget takes that away from people and will make children, adults, and families less secure.

A quick 🧵 on the Senate sub-bill released earlier today.
The proposal will make it harder for our neighbors to get the food and healthcare assistance they need. It would add new barriers that will remove people from participating in critical public economic security programs, including SNAP and Medicaid.
SNAP helps keep families and older adults fed during difficult times. Medicaid helps people get the health care they need and covers more than 3 million Ohioans.
While Gov. DeWine's proposed budget and the budget passed by the Ohio House expanded healthcare coverage to pregnant women and children through Medicaid, the Senate leadership removed that provision. I guess expanding healthcare for women and children isn’t a priority for them.🤔
While the Exec budget and the House budget would make child care affordable for more working families and provide an estimated 15,000 children with child care, the Senate proposal basically returns to the status quo. I guess child care for families isn’t a priority for them. 🤬
The Senate leadership removed $$ included in the budget passed by the House for school meals and $15 million/yr for the @OhioFoodbanks to provide food for children, families, and older adults all across the state. I guess they don’t care if kids go to school hungry. 😟
Instead of providing more security and stability for Ohioans, the Senate leadership chose to provide more tax cuts that would mostly benefit the rich and a universal voucher program that will send public $$ to wealthy families whose kids are already going to private schools. 😭
While this is all really concerning, it's not too late to shape the final budget. The budget should be a reflection of our values and priorities. Please stay engaged and stay in the fight to push for a final budget that provides security, stability and dignity for all Ohioans.
If you’re interested in digging deeper into what’s in the budget, here’s a link to the comparison document that outlined the Governor’s budget, the budget passed by the House, and the Senate sub bill: lsc.ohio.gov/assets/legisla…
Just to be clear, when I reference the Senate leadership, Senate President Matt Huffman is someone who has had an outsized role in the priorities within the proposed budget.

What results do you expect for our state? What results do you demand for your community? Image
The results I'm demanding are:

✅ all kids get the care and education they need to thrive
✅ we can all see a doctor when we are sick, put food on the table and have a roof over our head
✅ we all have an opportunity for a better life, no matter our race, zip code, or income
