Splash pads have, hilariously, become a point of contention in the city. On May 16 meeting Councilor Palmer objected to their addition on legal grounds. @IntelligencerWV echoed concerns in a story two days ago after they appeared on June 6 agenda,
.@MayorWheeling made clear he followed procedure in adding them to the agenda for June 6 meeting, but said council would table them. When the three related ordinances came up for vote they were tabled by voice vote. Splash pads, people. #folkreporter

Each meeting members of council are given the opportunity to give remarks. Only ONE (councilor @RosemaryKetchum) chose to do so. It is my opinion that not offering remarks is a disservice to the people. We get two meetings a month—SPEAK TO US. #folkreporter
11/15
Councilor @RosemaryKetchum spoke about @appalachianout1 who opened a new location at 38th and Wood St in Wheeling. The org offers natural disaster relief in WV.
Councilor @RosemaryKetchum encouraged residents to have their voice heard about the Clay School in a survey open until June 30. The school has sat vacant for decades, but is under consideration for remodeling or demolition. Survey: surveymonkey.com/r/clayschoolco…
13/15
Councilor @RosemaryKetchum will have office hours June 13 from 11-1 at the Center Market. Ketchum hosts these events regularly to allow citizens the chance to ask questions.

The next city council meeting with be Wednesday, June 21. The City-County Building is closed 6/19 in honor of Juneteenth and 6/20 in honor of WV Day.
The May 16 @CityofWheeling#CityCouncil meeting was unlike any other, due in large part to it's high attendance. Many came out in support of the LGBTQ+ and the upcoming Pride on the Plaza event. More than 60 people filled the chambers. Here's what you missed:
1/
Former state Sen Owens Brown was present, as well as current Delegate @WVUFLU. Del Fluharty, on entering the room, said "I heard something big was happening. Did I miss anything?" Something big indeed happened--an outpouring of support for #LGBTQ+ people #folkreporters
2/
The Friendlier City Project, a Wheeling non-profit with the mission to build and foster a thriving #LGBTQ+ community, asked supporters to come out in support of the June 10 Pride on the Plaza event. This was to rebuke a woman who speaks against LGBTQ+ people often.

The Ohio County Solid Waste Authority held its 2nd annual Earth Day block party on April 22 at @WhgHeritage Artisan Center. More than two dozen vendors greeted hundreds of Wheeling residents to celebrate the occasion. Let's meet some of them! #folkreporters

I spoke with OCSWA's Executive Director, Rebecca Friend, who said “I want people to know there’s hope, and there’s other people fighting to make our home better." Their booth diverted plants from the landfill, repotted them, and gave them to the community. #folkreporters

Students from @westlibertyu Zoo Science taught the community about ball pythons and hissing cockroaches from Africa, as well as aquatic insects from local streams. "These are not pets-they're ambassadors," one student told me. #folkreporters
Guess who has two thumbs and just finished their write up of the Earth Day block party from three weeks ago???
Now I can write my FidoFest article and my article about the opening of timeless muses in a TIMELY manner and be happy. You may not know what I’m talking about but soon enough you will! Next article dropping at 10:00 Sunday. GO SUBSCRIBE TO MY s*bst*ck link in bio
Yes s*bst*ck is being nerfed harder than slurs and hate speech. Yes this is the “free speech” turd Elon promised us. Hope we’re all happy. I have to do double the work to get my content out to the people (IE summarizing in threads). NOT EASY but I love it 💛
The @MenOfChange304 are well known for their community bike rides. The group promotes health and well-being initiatives while offering fellowship between neighbors in the city. They have held blood drives, back-to-school giveaways, and Halloween events! #folkreporters

.@RonScottJr304 told me that one of the goals of @MenOfChange304 is to be present for the community. “We have an inherent interest in the Black community but we are not pigeon-holed. We are a part of the community regardless of what color they are.” #folkreporters
Just want folks who are sharing the Intelligencer’s story with Councilor Seidler’s comment to know the actual story is 90% Dittmar’s rant verbatim.
You aren’t the ones affected by the dissemination of her hate and bigotry, but my friends are! Hope the likes are worth it!
Yes I’m gonna hype myself up. HERE is how you report on known bigots. You don’t copy them word-for-word, conspiracy and nastiness and all. You state what they are mad about and move on. This person is known universally in Wheeling. Now her message is being spread statewide
Again, legally I can’t say Dittmar led the effort to send threats to drag queens and staff of Primantis in March. I can say I believe it to be true. She bragged about doing as much in since deleted posts.
Stop spreading her message with that article. Be responsible.
The Wheeling City Council held its first meeting of May on Tuesday, May 2. It has received statewide attention after a known bigot had their six-minute tirade turned into a full-length story by a legacy paper.
A potential $500,000 loan-financing program to assist in the repair of sidewalks was discussed, offered by @ViceMayorWhg Thalman, Ward 1. Currently, it is the property owner's responsibility to maintain sidewalks. Councilors Sklavounakis and Palmer spoke in opposition.
(2/15)
@MayorWheeling said "We see people pushing baby strollers in the middle of the street...doing nothing is not constructive." City Manager Herron, citing a study for Wheeling Island, Woodsdale, and Warwood, said 231,000 sq ft of sidewalks need repaired, nearly $7 million.
