349M people🌍 are facing acute food insecurity, many of them living in low & middle-income countries where tobacco cultivation has increased in the last decade.
Planting tobacco:
🔴reduces soil fertility & productivity
🔴limits capacity to grow other crops
🔴leads to more hunger
Planting tobacco threatens food security and nutrition in many ways.
It leads to:
🔴scarcity of quality land
🔴limited choice of alternatives
🔴degradation of soil
🔴decreases crop intensity
Growing tobacco impacts the household income of farmers:
🚭Transnational tobacco companies under-grade tobacco leaves and underprice them to disadvantage the farmers
🚭The profit of growing tobacco excludes the expensive costs of seeds, fertilizers and renting or buying land.

.@WHO has lost communication with its contacts in Al-Shifa Hospital in northern Gaza. As horrifying reports of the hospital facing repeated attacks continue to emerge, we assume our contacts joined tens of thousands of displaced people and are fleeing the area. ⬇️
There are reports that some people who fled the hospital have been shot at, wounded and even killed.
Over the past 48 hours, Al-Shifa Hospital--which is the largest medical complex in Gaza--has been reportedly attacked multiple times, leaving several people dead and many others injured.

Whether you work outdoors or enjoy your time out with family and friends, avoid exposure to the #sun between 10:00 am and 04:00 pm to the extent possible.
The sun’s #UV rays are the strongest during this time.
1⃣Seek shade when UV rays are the most intense, but keep in mind that shade structures such as trees, umbrellas or canopies do not offer complete protection.
Remember the shadow rule: “Watch your shadow – Short shadow, seek shade!”
2⃣Wear protective clothing:
A hat offers good protection for your eyes, ears, face, and the back or your neck sunglasses that provide 99% - 100% UV-A and UV-B protection will greatly reduce eye damage.
Tightly woven, loose fitting clothes will provide additional protection.
