In a society ruled by alphas, Jungkook is a sigma who wants to keep his super rare rank a secret. It's pretty easy for the most part, because sigmas and alphas are quite similar.

Until omega Taehyung, the campus crush, takes an interest in him.

Taehyung looks at the drawer then, and indeed, it's been pushed shut completely.

Taehyung looks up at Jungkook, alarmed. "Do you think someone came into your room when you were somewhere else?"

Jungkook's brows furrow, and his jaw clenches. "I'm going to drag them to the ends of the earth if I catch them." Jungkook says, raging. "The audacity is unbelievable."

Taehyung wraps his arms around Jungkook's bicep, pressing a kiss there. "Shh, calm down, baby."

Jungkook's eyes glimmer with that hint of hazel again, his scent turning a little smoky. Taehyung reckons that he must be really angry.

So he rubs Jungkook's back gently, up and down, kissing him on the shoulder. "We'll figure it out together, okay?"

Jungkook nods, and Taehyung leans on his shoulder, pressing another kiss to it.

And just then, his eyes fall on the little metallic piece on the floor right next to the window. Taehyung's eyes go wide, because he immediately recognises it.

"Jungkook..." Taehyung moves away from him, kneels down and picks it up. "I know who this belongs to."

"What is it?" Jungkook asks, as Taehyung holds it up for him to see. "A... wolf-shaped button?"

Taehyung sighs. "That's Dongwoo's. He always changes all his buttons to an alpha wolf because he prides himself so much on his rank. I'm pretty sure these are his."

Jungkook just stares at the button, seething with anger.

"It must be because of me." Taehyung sighs. "I'm sorry."

Jungkook takes the button from him, and shakes his head. "No, don't blame yourself for someone's elses non-existent morals, hyung."

Taehyung gets up, and wraps his arms around Jungkook's waist, pressing his head to Jungkook's chest. "But... I'm here with you, and we're going to get you out of this mess, okay?"

Jungkook presses a kiss to Taehyung's head, and nods. "Okay, hyung."

Taehyung clears his throat, standing up at the table. "Hi, everyone."

Jimin stands up right after, addressing everyone in the cafeteria. "We've got something to share today. Some knowledge to impart."

Jungkook watches nervously, but he sits calmly, like it isn't making his gut twist at all.

Taehyung moves to the center of the cafeteria. "Have you ever heard about sigmas? Raise your hands if you have."

A handful of people raise their hands, but most of them just look at him cluelessly.

"Alright." Taehyung puts his hands behind himself. "Let me tell you then. Sigmas are an extremely rare rank, and we don't often come across them."

More and more people tune in to what Taehyung is saying, some out of curiosity, and some out of interest.

"But I'll have you know that they lie even above alphas." Taehyung smiles. "They're stronger, faster, more agile, and have better senses."

"One of these days, if we ever come across a sigma though, we must make them feel like one of us." Taehyung says. "Not like they're different. Because right here–" Taehyung touches his heart. "They're as human as the rest of us."

Jungkook's throat hurts as he fights tears.

Jungkook stands up, and as he does, the chair he had been sitting on slides back and drags against the floor.

The noise makes Taehyung turn around, and his eyes go wide, because Jungkook is supposed to just sit and act like the audience for now.

Taehyung and Jimin exchange looks, confused.

Taehyung starts a sentence again, but Jungkook walks up to him and grabs his wrist, shaking his head. He leans in, and whispers. "Let me."

Taehyung suddenly feels nervous, but he nods, and takes a step back.

Jungkook steps forward in place of him, looks up at everyone, shoulders held high. "Hi, I'd like to share something too."

Taehyung tightens his fingers around Jungkook's hand, showing him support through his touch.

Jungkook runs his eyes over the crowd, and then finally says. "I am a sigma. And if anyone has a problem, I'd love to see what they're going to do about it."

⭐ Chapter 12 ⭐

Jungkook's statement is followed by silence – So much silence that after a few seconds, even the second–hand of watches ticking away becomes audible.

"So?" Jungkook asks again. "Anyone? Do you have anything to say?"

Some people look straight up pale, scared, while others look away to avoid trouble. However, nobody creates a fuss about his rank.

"At my previous uni, I felt like I didn't even belong." Jungkook begins. "All because I'm a sigma. People kept reminding me that I was different."

"I don't want a repeat of that situation, because I am as much a human as the rest of you." Jungkook says. "So I hope you know where all of this is coming from."

Suddenly, one of them raises their hand, looking quite intimidated.

"Yes?" Taehyung asks instead of Jungkook, rubbing gently over his biceps to calm him. "Do you want to say something?"

The guy stands up. "Uhm, actually, I just wanted to say that I've researched quite a bit about sigmas and umm... I think you're really cool."

Jungkook's angry brows soften a little, and his jaw relaxes. At first, he feels a little speechless, but then, nods. "Oh. Thank you."

And soon, the guy's friend stands up too, and says. "Me too. I think sigmas are cool as well. It's nice to meet you."

Someone else stands up too.

"Sorry, I don't want to offend you. I've never met a sigma before but I've always thought you're cool." The guy says. "And knowing that you're a sigma doesn't change it at all."

Jungkook feels a sob lodge in his throat a little painfully. And as if Taehyung understands, he presses closer, and rubs soothing circles into his back.

"See, baby?" Taehyung whispers. "This is going much better than we expected, isn't it?"

Jungkook nods, and soon, there are more people repeating what the other person said. They all assure Jungkook that they don't or won't think of differently.

Some people confess their crushes on him too, and Taehyung has to pretend to still smile.

Jungkook politely declines all of them, and reassures Taehyung with a soft squeeze on his hands, like he understands.

"But the thing is..." Jungkook says. "I wasn't comfortable enough to share my rank with everyone. And that's my choice."

"I never claimed that I'm an alpha. I never lied about my rank. People just assumed that I was and I just never corrected them." Jungkook continues. "But it was my identity, and someone tried to threaten me with it."

The crowd goes quiet again.

"Someone broke into my room." Jungkook chuckles mockingly. "And thought they could get away with it."

The principal and some professors have also gathered at the cafeteria gates at this point, intently listening.

Jungkook steps forward then, eyes glimmering with hazel as he scans the cafeteria. "Park Dongwoo, where the fuck are you, you coward?"

"Yeah, where are you Dongwoo?" Taehyung yells, feeling just as angry. "Step out!"

Dongwoo, who had been listening and grinding his teeth, sitting in the back and hiding his face under a baseball cap, suddenly feels a chill run down his spine.

"Fuck!" He whispers, sinking further into his seat, looking around. "I can't even step out right now."

Taehyung scans the whole cafeteria carefully as well, brows drawn together, until his eyes land on Dongwoo.

"There he is!" Taehyung points right at him. "Hiding in the back. Let's go get him, babe!"

Taehyung charges forward immediately, ready to attack, but Jungkook grabs him by the waist and pulls him back, closer to himself.

"Shh, it's alright." Jungkook says, trying to calm him down. "The envelope's ready, right?"

Taehyung lets out a sigh, relaxing back into his arms. "Yes." He says, stepping away.

Taehyung digs into his bag and pulls out a big brown envelope, and then hands it over to Jungkook. "Here."

Jungkook holds it up, and speaks to Dongwoo. "This has proof of you breaking into my room, including your button that fell there, and other stuff we dug up. Good luck, I'm handing this over to the principal."

The principal clears his throat. "Jeon Jungkook, please show me that."

It's only then that Jungkook notices him there, and bows. He walks upto the principal, and confidently hands it over.

"Do whatever you will with this." Jungkook says. "Breaking into someone's room is a serious offence."

"And threatening someone on top of that." Taehyung adds, still glaring at Dongwoo.

Dongwoo finally stands up, the color fading from his face. "I can explain."

The principal holds up his hand, asking him to keep quiet, as he and the other professors look through the contents of the envelope.

"Park Dongwoo." The principal looks up at him, disgusted. "I can expel for you this."

"Expel me?!" Dongwoo says, freaking out. "Can I at least get a chance to explain?"

The principal dismisses him, and turns to Jungkook. "I apologise for the inconvenience, Jungkook. This will be dealt with at the earliest."

Jungkook bows to him, thanking him.

"This has nothing to do with the fact that your family contributes the biggest amount to the uni funds, by the way." The principal says. "If you were in the wrong, I would have punished you too. But you're a good one. I'll take care of it."

Everyone who hears it gasps, and Jungkook only bows, watching the principal walk out.

Taehyung gasps, turning to Jungkook. "What? Baby, you're rich?!"

The rest of their friends groan and gasp too.

"You never told us!"

"What?" Jaehoon finally speaks up. "There's no way. My family pays this uni the most."

"Him!" Dongwoo shouts. "Jaehoon helped me do all of this!"

Suddenly, Jaehoon panics, and starts to put his sunglasses back on.

"This bitch." Taehyung says. "Babe, I'm going to get him!"

"I'm not rich." Jungkook says. "My family is." And then, he looks at Jaehoon, eyes narrowed. "I just don't go around broadcasting it to everyone."

Jaehoon sinks further in his seat, but the principal sees him already, and calls him out too.

"If you don't mind, can I talk to them for a bit first?" Jungkook asks.

The principal nods.

Jungkook bows, and then steps closer.

"I am ready to get suspended for a few days for what I'm about to do."

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Dongwoo and Jaehoon stand, brows drawn together as they watch Taehyung and Jungkook approach.

They're all outside the cafeteria now, just the four of them, not many people around them.

"You could have talked to me but you chose to make a scene in front of everyone, huh?" Dongwoo steps forward, angry.

Dongwoo is about to open his mouth to speak again, when Jungkook steps towards him, and lands a punch on his face.

Dongwoo falls on his back, hand flying up to cover his face where he feels the impact of the blow.

"Fucking asshole!" He barely is able to speak, as he tries to soothe the pain.

Jaehoon's eyes go wide, as he puts his sunglasses back on again and tries to step aside again. When Jungkook looks at him and glares, he shivers.

"You're lucky you're an omega." Jungkook says. "Or you'd be on the floor with him right now."

Taehyung steps forward. "I'm an omega, though. I guess I don't mind being suspended for a few days either."

And before Jaehoon can react, Taehyung steps forward and punches him in the face as well.

"Assholes, don't mess with my man ever." Taehyung warns them both, as he grabs Jungkook's wrist.

Jungkook pulls Taehyung closer, smiling at how fiesty he is, and whispers into his ears. "Let's get out of here before you beat them to a pulp, okay?"

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Jungkook and Taehyung step into Jungkook's room, thinking they'll finally get some rest, when Jungkook feels the first muscle cramp along both his arms at the same time.

Jungkook immediately knows what it is, and sighs.

"Hyung." Jungkook turns to Taehyung, caressing his cheek with the back of his hand. "I think you should go back to your dorm room."

Taehyung's eyes go wide, before they turn a little sad. "Why? Don't you... want me here?"

"No, are you crazy?" Jungkook says, stepping back. "I always want you around. But right now, you should probably leave, hyung."

Taehyung's eyes widen further. "And you're stepping away from me too. Jungkook, what's wrong? Is it my new deodorant? Don't you like it?"

Jungkook hangs his head in resignation, shoulders drooping as more and more muscle pains shoot up his limbs and back. The room starts to slowly fill with his scent, and Jungkook finally looks up again, into Taehyung's eyes.

"Hyung. I'm starting my rut."

Taehyung's hands fly up to his mouth, before his brows draw together in confusion.

"Wait, if you're starting your rut, why should I leave?" Taehyung asks. "You're my boyfriend. I can help you through it and we can also have some sexy time."

Jungkook breaks into a soft chuckle, pulling Taehyung closer by the waist, and pressing a kiss to his cheek.

"Yeah. About that." Jungkook says. "Sigmas deal with their rut a little differently."

"Oh." Taehyung pouts, confused. "No sexy time?"

Jungkook smiles, leans in, and kisses the pout away from Taehyung's lips in a second. "Sorry to disappoint you, hyung."

"How?" Taehyung asks, wrapping his arms around Jungkook's neck.

But Jungkook shuts his eyes, letting out a heavy sigh, and Taehyung can somehow tell that he's in pain.

"Jungkook?" He asks, worried. "Baby."

"It's hurting." Jungkook says, but still smiles, kissing his cheek.

"Hey." Taehyung brings his hands around his face to cup it. "Come here, come to bed."

And as Taehyung holds his hand and leads Jungkook to the bed, Jungkook speaks. "It usually gets really painful. Way more than it is for alphas. Doing anything becomes difficult."

As Jungkook sits down, Taehyung pushes him to lie down. "So... how do you deal with it?"

"We sleep through it." Jungkook smiles. "There's a special pill that helps me sleep for three days straight. Which is why, you don't have to waste your time here, hyung."

Taehyung looks at him, taking in the information, heart pounding in his chest.

"But I don't mind." Taehyung says, taking Jungkook's hand in his own. "Do you mind if I come here and sit by the side of your bed and take care of you when you're sleeping? Can I... do that?"

Jungkook is taken aback, but then again, when has Taehyung been anything but kind and caring to him.

"You would do that?" Jungkook asks. "Wouldn't it get boring? I wouldn't even be able to talk to you during those three days."

Taehyung just shrugs.

"But I'd still be next to you, in your presence, spending time with you, knowing you're okay." Taehyung says. "Isn't that nice too? I'd much rather do that than stay away when you're in pain, Jungkook, if you're okay with it."

Jungkook stares at him with his big, beautiful eyes, that start to get a little watery. Taehyung leans closer and hugs Jungkook immediately.

Jungkook buries his face into Taehyung's neck, breathing him in. "Have I ever mentioned that I'm in love with you?"

"Several times, but even when you don't, I know." Taehyung says, already sobbing a little. "I love you too."

Jungkook kisses the side of his face, and whispers. "Go get your stuff. Pack enough for three days, okay?"

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Taehyung dumps his bag on the table, and then rushes to lock the door. Then, he's scurrying over to where Jungkook is standing with a pill in his hand.

"Okay, now you can take the pill." Taehyung says, and then, Jungkook swallows it with some water.

"So seventy two hours, right?" Taehyung looks at his watch as they walk back towards Jungkook's bed.

"Yes, maximum." Jungkook says, climbing into bed and lying down. "Well, usually that's what happens."

"So in exactly three days you'll be awake, right?"

"Yes, hopefully."

"Okay." Taehyung says, pulling Jungkook's blanket over to his chest, and leaning down to press a kiss to his lips. "Sleep well, baby, and wake up feeling better."

"Fuck." Jungkook says when Taehyung pulls back from the kiss. "With you here, I don't even want to sleep right now."

Taehyung sighs, this time, leaning down to kiss the pout that forms on Jungkook's lips away.

"I'm still going to be here when you're awake, okay?" Taehyung says. "I love you. Feel better soon."

Jungkook nods, and closes his eyes. Taehyung sits by the bed patiently, and watches as Jungkook rapidly falls asleep, and his hand slips out of Taehyung's onto his own stomach.

Taehyung sighs, but reaches out to caress Jungkook's face. "It's already so boring, Jungkook-ah."

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

The next seventy hours somehow seem to pass painfully slowly.

Taehyung attends classes as usual after being suspended for the first day, but the rest of his time is spent in Jungkook's room.

Taehyung's back and waist start to hurt from how he's been sleeping on the small couch in Jungkook's room or just sitting by his bed all the time, hoping that he'll somehow wake up before time.

But Jungkook doesn't wake up before time.

When the the third day starts to draw to a close, Taehyung starts to feel anxious.

He anticipates endlessly, thinking that Jungkook could wake up at any moment. But Jungkook doesn't even stir.

When seventy hours have passed, Taehyung feels tired and exhausted, and cries a little as he leans against Jungkook's bed.

"Wake up." Taehyung says, tears streaming down his face, as he gently shakes Jungkook. "Jungkook-ah."

And just like that, with tears constantly falling out of his eyes and the exhaustion weighing down on him, Taehyung falls asleep.

Leaning against Jungkook's bed, sitting on the floor, fingers curled around his bicep, waiting for him to wake up already.

When Taehyung wakes up, it feels different somehow.

The floor is softer, and there's warmth surrounding his body from all sides. Taehyung basks in it for a few seconds, until he remembers that Jungkook is still asleep, and he opens his eyes abruptly. "Jungkook?!"

And when he looks around himself, he's not actually on the floor anymore. Taehyung is on Jungkook's bed, under his blanket, safely tucked in.

It's morning already, and the room smells fresher than it did last night.

"You're up?" Jungkook's beautiful voice greets him, as he walks to bed with breakfast in his hands, smiling widely and looking like a million bucks.

Taehyung starts to cry, relief filling his chest. "Baby! You're awake. How are you feeling? Is the pain gone?"

Jungkook sets the plate down on the bedside table, and sits down on the edge of the bed.

"I'm feeling great." He takes Taehyung's hands, and presses kisses to his knuckles. "But how are you feeling? You looked very exhausted and sick when I woke up."

Taehyung just leaps onto him, wrapping his arms around Jungkook and crying. "You said you'd wake up in seventy two hours!"

"I did!" Jungkook chuckles, hugging him back. "You weren't awake to see it."

"I missed you so much, and it was so boring without you." Taehyung says. "I now hate your rut as much as you do."

Jungkook smiles, gently rubbing circles onto his back. "Why did you tire yourself out like that? I'd never allow you to look after me if I knew you'd do that."

"I didn't!" Taehyung immediately says. "Okay, I'll take care of myself too the next time. I promise."

Jungkook hums, pulling back and cupping his cheek. "Um, I have something for you."

"I know, breakfast." Taehyung smiles.

"No, something else." Jungkook chuckles, digging into his pocket. "I thought it was too early for us, but I just can't help myself anymore."

Taehyung watches curiously as Jungkook produces a metal ring, and holds it out in front of him.

"This is a ring sigmas give their partners to confess their love." Jungkook smiles. "I never thought I'd need one, but I had this with me, and well. I think I should give it to you."

Taehyung's eyes go wide, and he looks from the ring to Taehyung. "Are you serious?"

Jungkook nods. "This is basically me saying that I'm ready to spend the rest of my life by your side, as your mate, if you allow me to, of course."

"No way." Taehyung says, staring at the ring. "Seriously?"

"Yes. Seriously."

And then, Taehyung looks at him again.

"So are you going to put in on my finger or what? I'm still waiting."

Jungkook breaks into a huge smile. "Yeah. I will."

And then, he grabs Taehyung's hand and slips the ring into the ring finger on his left hand. As Taehyung inspects the ring, he notices how it says in tiny block letters, ‘FROM YOUR SIGMA.’

"This ring represents that your sigma will always have your back, and will always be there for you and protect you." Jungkook says.

"Then should I get one for you that says from your omega?" Taehyung asks, smiling. "Because I want to do all of that for you too."

"Come here." Jungkook says, pulling Taehyung into a hug again, whispering into his neck. "I love you so much. I'm ready to be your mate for the rest of our lives, if you are too."

Taehyung pulls back, smiles at him, and presses a kiss to his lips.

Taehyung cups Jungkook's face, caressing his cheek with his thumb as he fondly stares into his eyes.

"Of course I'm ready." Taehyung says. "I love you. Let's spend a lot of happy days by each other's side."
