John Roberts 2013: “I just do not think Alabama will do a racism against Black voters if I strike down preclearance.”

John Roberts 2023: “Oh my, Alabama did a racism against Black voters.” #SCOTUS
“Since the Supreme Court gutted preclearance in Shelby County v. Holder, this redistricting cycle was the first without federal oversight, allowing hostile state governments to pass maps that dilute the voices of Black voters and other voters of color."

LDF (cont.): “This decision is a clear message to lawmakers that their responsibility has not changed: They must ensure that voters of color are not denied an opportunity to participate in the electoral process.”

The man who narrowly beat Hillary Clinton in 2016 (despite losing the popular vote by 3 million) just got indicted for mishandling classified documents—the crime the media spent the entire campaign speculating she may have done. (Spoiler: She didn't). #ButHerEmails
And let's be clear: Data shows Hillary was winning the 2016 election until Comey and the media decided the last 10 days of the election should be spent hyperventilating over her emails.

She lost based on wrong speculation she may have done what Trump was just indicted for doing.
Yes, there was Russia. Yes, there were misogynists on the left who wouldn't vote for her no matter what (but did vote for Biden).

But ultimately, the national media still hasn't reckoned with the disgusting way they covered the 2016 election. The media made Trump president.

NEW: The U.S. Supreme Court ordered Alabama to draw a second majority-Black congressional district today, calling the 2020 map a violation of the Voting Rights Act.

Other states, like Louisiana, could soon have to do the same.

During 2020 redistricting, Alabama's GOP majority drew a map that packed many of the state’s Black residents in a single congressional district, leaving the other six congressional districts majority white. Over a quarter of Alabama’s residents are Black.

In Louisiana, Republicans drew a map with 5 majority-white districts and 1 majority-Black district, even though a third of Louisianans are Black.

Today's ruling could mean Louisiana will have to adopt a second majority-Black district, too.

Gov. John Bel Edwards responds: “As I said when I vetoed it...

The White House announced that Jackson is receiving an initial $115 million investment to repair its ailing water system.

“Until all our children can safely drink water from the tap, our fight for clean water must and will continue,” President Biden said.

The EPA said in a statement that the City will use the funds for identifying and fixing leaks, developing a system-wide assessment of valves and hydrants, ensuring capacity to maintain water pressure and distribution and developing a stabilization plan.

The funds are part of a $600 million package Congress approved for Jackson that Biden signed into law in December.

The only members of Mississippi's congressional delegation who voted for it were Dem Rep. Bennie Thompson and GOP Sen. Roger Wicker.

NEW: The nation's largest LGBTQ+ advocacy has declared a "State of Emergency" for LGBTQ+ people, citing a raft of anti-LGBTQ legislation nationwide.

"We are endangered because of these bills," says Rob Hill of @HRC-Mississippi.

“During this legislative session, there have been over 525 state bills introduced that attack the LGBTQ+ community (nationwide), and over 220 of those target the transgender community. As of press time, more than 70 of those have become law," HRC says.

“The pace at which LGBTQ+ equality has advanced has created a ‘last stand mentality’ among some white Christian conservatives who are determined to re-establish their vision of a white Christian America by any means necessary," HRC says.

BREAKING: Nakala Murry filed a criminal affidavit against Greg Capers, the Indianola Police officer who shot her 11-year-old son Aderrien Murry in the chest after he called 911 for help.

"The county prosecutor now has to act," the family's lawyer says.

The family's attorney Carlos Moore says the filing triggers a probable cause hearing.

"Any time an affidavit is filed against an officer, a probable cause hearing shall be held before a circuit court judge and people have to testify about what happened.”

THREAD: Douglas Carswell made a shocking claim this week: He said that, after Mississippi's prison population dropped by 19%, the State's violent crime rate rose a whopping 741% between 2016 and 2022!

And that is 100% false... Here's how he got there. 1/

Carswell used data from MDPS, which showed there were 538 violent crimes in 2016 and 4,533 in 2022—a 741% jump!

But the 2016 data only included violent crimes from 4 agencies in two counties.

The 2022 data included 130 agencies across 62 counties.

As @nickjudin pointed out, the very site Carswell used to obtain this data warns: "As the number of agencies reporting to the state increases, crime will appear higher, so all year-over-year comparisons should be treated with caution."
