Been reminded of this thread while juggling around the thesis that: the indifference + stiff upper lip necessary to meet it and to function in world, so stereotypical and continually under attack, is merely prep and training for fatherhood...
...where you are genuinely priority #3 (or #4 or #5 or so on). Which doesn't make your well being unimportant, but it's important only insofar as it affects family functioning. Nobody gives much of a shit about the lone gambling alcoholic, until that gambling alkie has a family
So, that indifference you adapt to early (Norah Vincent and this bearded gal merely adopted the darkness, etc etc) is training and moral formation designed for the telos of your sex: to be an extremelly valuable auxiliary, but an auxiliary nonetheless, and that's OK
Which is what seems off about the #BellLetsTalk genre of hockey commentators going off about how Men Have Feelings Too and Men's Mental Health is Important etc

So, the experience of adapting to that indifference is training for the natural role of being #3 priority (at minimum), and being OK with that + learning the proper amount of attn to put in to fulfill that role w/o black-and-white "I'm either #1 or nothing at all" narcissism
But you'll still largely be a cosmic means to an end, & going into a situation where you'll definitively be #3 priority expecting anything different will just destroy that family system (but hey, being destructive might make the world less indifferent to you! Misaligned training)
So like...yea, if you're fulfilling the ends you've been designed for as a sex, you'll have to Walk it Off frequently enough lol. Hope your childhood and raising prepared you for there always being a couple other humans who will be higher priority while you're walking it off!
And this should've all been more obvious than it was, and I'm Blaming Society for that. Bell, Let's Talk? OK, sure, but there's a couple other living priorities needing attention first and that's a natural order with a pretty clear function

Because this is on purpose - it's very functional to the continued existence of a society for those depths not to be apparent, for them to personally be depths and not riptide or whitewater
