“From 2016 to 2023, all of the money voted and budgeted for Nigeria Air is N5 billion. But all that was released was in the neighbourhood of N3 billion, not N85 billion, and not all of the N3 billion has been expended as of the time I left office."
"What has been done with the money is nothing but to get special advisory services, the AOC processes, salaries, consultive services, and the maintenance of the office in Abuja. No contract was awarded by Hadi Sirika. These are the things the money was used for."
"And there is the Freedom of Information Act. People can apply and get all the information about what the money has been used for. The N85 billion being mentioned is only in the imagination of the people carrying it about.”
“The AOC owned by Ethiopian Airline is known to Nigeria & the NCAA. They are permitted to come in either with scheduled passengers, chattered or cargo. They have to come in under 1 of the 3. So, they came as chartered. Being chartered doesn't mean that anybody paid for anything."
"The government did not pay a dime for that aircraft to come in."

“Secondly, there was no revenue passenger in the aircraft because that would have been totally against the law and wouldn’t have been allowed. It was their own marketing strategy as equity partners."
They came to do this unveiling on a special allowance called chartered, and it does not mean that we paid for it. If anybody was to pay for it, it would have been the Ethiopian Airline, not the Nigerian government. No penny was paid."
“On the issue of Honorable Nnaji, who called Nigeria Air launch a fraud, I will respond now. I will say exactly what I told him in private when we spoke. Hon. Nnaji asked me that I should give him 5% of Nigeria Air to carry him along with his people & I said to him at that time:
"Honourable, a bidding process has taken place, and some people won. So, I think you should go to those people and ask for the 5 percent.” "

"Let's be fair, Honorable Nnaji didn’t say other members."
“He said he wants it for himself & his people. His people could his be his family, could be members & it could be leadership. I don’t know, but he insisted on 5%. I said that he should relax & approach the owners. That’s exactly what I told him.”
"I was a member of the House of Reps 20 years ago, and 10 years ago, I was a Senator. I know the workings of the National Assembly. He [Nnaji] called for public hearing. And right under the public hearing, he just turned the paper and read the riot act."
"The practice in the NASS is that after hearing people & the complain, you now go & sit down as a committee, discuss the issues, raise them, approach the whole House of Reps & take position of the house plus leadership & come back & make your findings known, ..
... but not immediately you just read the riot act out. It means it is predetermined.”

Former Minister for Aviation

My Thought On A Saturday ...

SOCIAL MEDIA & SMIs

First, anyone who knows that young lady from Ekiti State should congratulate her on my behalf. Incidentally, her parents gave her one of my best Yoruba names of all time - DaMi-LoLa.

@ChefDammy__
She survived and defeated the busy-body social media mob of 'double H' (Hate and Hypocrisy). It is not easy at all.

Whether her name eventually gets into Guinness Book of World Records or not does not matter, at least as far as I am concerned.
The same social media some people used to hail the other, the same people also used to troll and hate on her. Alas! what they planned for her disgrace has helped her elevation. That is a blessing. At least, I know her name now.

NIGERIA AIR: MUCH ADO ABOUT A "SCAM"
Some are running with the wind, shouting Nigeria Air is a "scam" & a "fraud", because the Ag MD of NA came clean with the Nnolim Nnaji headed House Committee on Aviation that the aircraft used for its unveiling belonged to Ethiopian airlines.
Straight up, I don't support what the Minister did with the flight. If the carrier wasn't ready for final launch, there's no need for the show. Telling Nigerians exactly where the processes were wld've been enough cos a greater %tage of the work had been done by the Buhari Admin.
That said, I find it hard to comprehend why some people, including the Chair House Comm on Aviation would reduce all the hard work done & resources expended by Nigeria, info on which are in the public domain to a scam or fraud.
What exactly is the scam or fraud about Nigeria Air?

Surely, They Do Not Know What They Are Saying ...

📌 They say the Aircraft belongs to Ethiopian Airline.

Well, Ethiopian Airline has majority ownership of Nigeria Air (49%). Nigeria Air is one of its subsidiaries. So why not? What is the issue there?
📌 They say it is an "old aircraft". Then they say the aircraft is 10 years old.

I ask: How is a 10 year old aircraft an "old aircraft"? What is the lifetime of an average Boeing aircraft? It has a lifespan of around 35 years or 90,000 flight hours. So what are they saying?
📌 They say why a small country like Ethiopia & Ethiopian Airline?

I laugh. It is not by size. Ethiopian Airline is 77 years in operation this year. How old is Nigeria as a nation itself? It is not an excuse, but it is the truth.
So what is their point?

If not arrogant ignorance, some folks would have hidden their faces in shame, kept quiet and maybe be enlightened, especially seeing that they have goofed. Sadly many of them are incapable of being educated. So they proudly exhibit their willful ignorance. Image
The aircraft with the inscription 'NIGERIA AIR' that we saw landing at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport Abuja two days ago did not get there suddenly, by magic, accident, or by trick.
It was a product of years of deft negotiations, planning, preparation & following due processes to fulfil all necessary business & aviation requirements to ensure that a sucessful & enduring national career for Nigeria is birthed. As PMB would say: "Order is better than speed".

🇬🇧 British Airways
British Airways is the flag carrier of the United Kingdom. Despite that nationalistic sounding tag, British Airways is not a state-owned airline.

BA was privatised in 1987 & is now wholly owned by IAG, an Anglo-Spanish airline consortium.
International Consolidated Airlines Group, S.A. (IAG) is a multi-national holding company registered in Spain with its corporate headquarters in London, UK.

IAG owns majority stakes in a number of large airlines including BA (100%), Iberia (100%) & British M International (BMI).

Lauretta Onochie? Demand Exotic Cars, 18 Aides, Mansion?
These people truly do not know this woman that they are fighting one bit.
A woman who in one of our usual candid talks on general life issues, long before talk of any NDDC appointment came up,
said to me that what a person needs is a shelter.

That if you have an accommodation and you can afford to pay your rent, that is all you need. Of course she was living in a rented apartment herself then even as aide to the president.
It is most unfortunate how petty and low people can go. In their desperation, they have now become plain stu*pid.

And For What?

Just to be allowed to keep packing more money from the NDDC on top of the ones they already have while the rest of the people go hungry.
