Early attacks on Indian Subcontinent by Arabs.

#KingsOfTheNorth

After Prophet Muhammad died in 632AD, Caliphs took charge of preaching this new faith.

634-661 is considered the Golden Age of Islam. twitter.com/i/web/status/1…
Due to superiority of the Arab horses, camels & religious zeal, they were able to easily Islamicize Syria, Iraq, Iran, North Africa, & Central Asia.

Arabs were at their peak and were inflicting defeats on their enemy’s everywhere.

But the land of India gave them a tough fight.
Arabs had an ambitious plan to conquer India.

Caliph Umar sent his naval expeditions to

1. Coast of Thane in 636CE.
2. Baruch in 643CE.

Both expeditions failed.
3. Debal in Sindh - First Land Attack

Caliph Umar attacked the Hindu state of Sindh in Debal.

Brahman Raja Chach Rai gave them a tough fight and defeated & killed Arab leader Al-Mughirah.

Abu Musa advised Umar to give up the idea of Sindh.
4. Arabs invaded Sindh again in 660 CE.

Caliph Ali attacked Sindh via land at Kikan, they were defeated again by Hindu Kings & Muslim Army suffered heavy casualties.
5. Caliph Abi Sufiya, launched 6 invasions one after another during 661-680CE.

During one such attempt, Muslim Army was able to capture Kikan & loot the city.

But after some time Kikan picked up arms again & defeated the invaders who were forced to retreat.
6. Caliph Ali sent 1st expedition to Sindh under Harish in 660.

Jats put up a tough fight against the Arabic invaders & defeated them. Harish and his followers were killed.
7. Caliph Ali then sent 2nd expedition In 662 under Muslim general Haras, who volunteered to attack Sindh, he too was slain in Kikan by Jats.
8. Caliph Mu'awiya I sent the 3rd expedition under Abdullah Ibn Sawad with 4000 soldiers to Sindh.

Jats defeated & killed Abdullah, and his army of Islamic Arabs was made to flee to Makran.
9. Caliph Mu'awiya I sent the 4th expedition under Muhallab Ibn Abu Sufra in 664.

In Kikan when he met Jats, he was killed & his Army was defeated.

Jats of Kaikan fought bravely and defeated the Arabs very badly again & again.
So Arabs could not attack India by the Kikan route
After repeated defeats, Arabs didn't dare look at Bharat again for the next 30 years (680-711).

What they don't tell us

1. When he arrived in Calicut in Sep 1500, he #burnt other ships & crew alive in full view of the public.

2. He #bombarded the city of Calicut for 2 days.
