🧵/ link in the last tweet. Many of you have seen these Russian fortification lines on satellite images and maps. Thanks to Russian soldiers taking selfies there, together with @pustota, we can now show you how they look from the ground.
You can see a camouflaged Soviet 100-mm MT-12 anti-tank gun and the ammo boxes. Some 'dragon's teeth' are visible in the background. This allows us to geolocate this photo to the N-E of Tokmak, less than 30 km from where the Ukrainian offensive is underway (47.31786, 35.84679)
Here's how this exact part of the Russian fortification line looks on the @planet satellite image:
The guy also posted another photo from the area, with military trucks and equipment hidden in the woods, but clearly visible in his photo (archive.is/WNdZ6). Both this and the previous photo were posted on May 15th.
The guy came to Ukraine from Stavropol via Grozny as a volunteer after 'studying' at the 'Russian Spetznaz University' ('RUS'), created by Ramzan Kadyrov to fill his 'Akhmat' units due to the lack of volunteers from Chechnya itself.
Recently, 'RUS' became the first to sign an official contract with the Russian Ministry of Defense, which grants its soldiers an equal status to that of regular Russian troops. rferl.org/a/russia-chech…
Why 'RUS'? You can see from the RU MoD video of signing the contract. (h/t @gorianov)
We have found yet another Russian soldier who came to Zaporizhzhia via 'RUS'. Their training camp is based in Gudermes, Chechnya, and is considered 'luxurious' compared to the camps for Russian mobiks.
This guy is now waiting for the Ukrainian troops to come his way near the village of Novoprokopivka, on the road leading from Orekhiv to Tokmak. He even has a DIY periscope made from a wooden bar and a car mirror!
'To Kyiv!' is written on his patch. Quite wishful thinking for a person waiting for the Ukrainian offensive hundreds of kilometers away from the country's capital.
More fighters from Chechnya in Zaporizhzhia (not sure if they came via 'RUS'). This photo was posted on May 20th and can be easily geolocated near Azovske (46.804624, 36.658420). I wonder if there were Ukrainian strikes on that date (as seen by the smoke plume in the background).
Jokes aside, those Russian fortifications would be a major challenge for the Ukrainian army, not only due to the fortifications themselves but also when combined with Russian aviation and artillery. For more analysis, you can read it here: rusi.org/explore-our-re…
Now that the Ukrainian offensive has started, I would like to thank @bradyafr once again for his efforts in mapping all these fortifications. This is incredibly helpful in our work.
Russian MoD published the video of alleged Ukrainian maritime drones attack on Russian project 18280 "Ivan Khurs" SIGINT intelligence collection ship. The attack claimed to have happened in Turkish Exclusive Economic Zone, 400 kms from the Ukrainian shore. @CovertShores
That's not the first time "Ivan Khurs" makes the news: back in 2020 while conducting routine operations in the North Arabian Sea, the US Navy’s Arleigh Burke-class destroyer USS Farragut (DDG 99) had a close encounter with this Russian ship. navaltoday.com/2020/01/13/vid…
There were 2 drones which flew from different directions. 1st one caused some fire, second one didn't. Check the clock: 1st one is 2.27, 2nd one 2.43. The video with the people climbing the dome is indeed the 2nd drone (no fire caused).
Video with people climbing also was filmed by CCTV (and the guy just filmed the playback on a screen, so it doesn't say anything about him being prompted to start recording by the 1st drone - but the Spasskaya tower clock on TVC video confirm that this was indeed the 2nd drone).
🧵1/6. I precisely geolocated this train derailment in Bryansk oblast, Russia, and can show you the aftermath as it was caught nearly live by Planet.com satellite imagery.
2/6 First, I geolocated the repair works video which was published today (t.me/telerzd/3027), thanks to the YouTube video filmed from a train and uploaded 8 months ago (). 52.848286, 32.717822
3/6 This is the only place east of the Unecha station where wires cross the tracks. After this point, a line of three parallel wires starts on the right side. Also, in the video, you can see a sign that says '136 km,' which matches the official reports.(t.me/belta_telegram…).
🧵Pentagon leak: Russian National Guards personnel shortfalls in Ukraine will probably hinder Moscow’s attempts to fully secure all of its annexed territories.
As per another document, dated late February 2023 and reviewed by @SvobodaRadio, in August 2022, the Russian National Guard had at least 27,500 troops stationed in Ukraine, and it has suffered significant personnel losses since then.
National Guard units, the memo says, have taken on numerous additional missions to hold territory behind the frontline, amplifying their personnel needs.
🧵/ link in the last tweet. Exclusive: Wagner PMC was involved in the planning of the riots in Moldova aimed at overthrowing the pro-EU government, as revealed by leaked Pentagon documents.
Another leaked document, dated February 28th and reviewed by @SvobodaRadio, reveals that these efforts might be ongoing despite recent public revelations about such activities.
There have been several warnings about Russia's attempts to intervene in Moldova's internal politics. On February 13th, Moldova's President, @sandumaiamd, directly accused Russia of attempting to overthrow the pro-EU government. theguardian.com/world/2023/feb…
