Houston is the "energy capital of the world" thanks to the footprint of the fossil fuel industry. Point sources, including industrial facilities, are significant contributors to CO2 emissions.
1/5 - Last week, @airalliancehouston attended the @HGAC’s public meeting on the next Regional Goods Movement Plan, which outlines how freight -- on trains, trucks, ships, and planes -- should move through our region in the future.
We had 3 takeaways:
2/5 - 1) They said 1 of the goals was to “reduce community impacts” of freight, but the current projects are heavily focused on highways. They even designate the NHHIP as a high-need project. Induced demand does not improve air quality.
3/5 - 2) Port-related freight traffic is a major concern – especially for portside communities. Why establish a new Task Force/Working Group when the @hpcc already exists to elevate portside community voices?
