Unpopular opinion - Amish Tripathi started this trend of dumbing down our Puranas to appeal to "current generation". His Meluha series was decent, but the Ramayana one was unbearable. On top of it he adds a whole lot of pseudo science in his novels making it even worse.
Yeah I know the Amish Tripathi fan club here will get offended, not that I care. But that guy honestly is plain overrated. His "intellectual" takes are cringe worthy max. Ashwin Sanghi is any day a better writer than him.

Akbar had captured Chittorgarh in 1568 after a long siege, that saw the massacre of it's inhabitants. It's ruler Udai Singh had fled from the fort, and founded a new capital at Udaipur. The siege was noted for the heroic defense of Jaimal and Patta.
