if you think Bruce Timm lost his touch with old age that's fine! framing it as "we need censors to keep creators reined in from going too far with sex and violence!!!" is incredibly wimpy behavior esp in an age where every prominent political ideology handwrings over those things
the effectiveness of gore & sex isn't defined by whether it fits a wanky definition of "classy" or not; it depends on whether direction, art & animation are good. the gore in Primal gets over the top as hell & it's amazing, not tacky, cuz it's backed up by strong aesthetic sense!
Adult Swim's Samurai Jack season had huge story problems and was a disappointment in how it failed to shift from episodic adventures to an ongoing plot, but being more violent & sexual wasn't one of its issues. Ashi was cute, the gore was very well handled.
the main reason people say "BRUCE NEEDS TO BE HELD BACK" is cuz people were offended by the age gap in Killing Joke, since comic book fans are like that. Jack also had a massive age gap between Jack & Ashi and no one cared outside of a few Tumblr kids
the thing is I kinda get where it's coming from cuz I do find Tomino's portrayal of broken families more relatable & variety is good but framing it as a "current year" thing makes you look like a "libs want to DESTROY THE FAMILY" walking strawman
btw use a Japan web proxy to view the article cuz Yahoo Japan blocks gaijins lol
top 1/5 amazon japan review for black sun says exactly what I did: on one hand it feels like it's saying "violent extremism is bad, both sides" but on the other "well it's not really bad to kill chud politicians for one side, which we'll romanticize more"
honestly with the "murdering Abe" scene Black Sun is way more extreme than the "SJW MCU" stuff people lose their shit over; bloodthirsty even. which is why it's hard to call people insane for saying the "raising child terrorists to kill BIGOTS >:'O" finale is presented positively
is "extreme systemic evil calls for extreme solutions" an unreasonable reading? seems like a fitting moral judgment, in-universe; & since Black Sun is meant to reflect what the creators view as the realities of Japan & America, "teach kids to slit bigot throats irl" isn't far off
I guess if you regularly watch & enjoy modern Hollywood stuff & "prestige TV" Bebop live action is really not that bad/above average. it's only terrible if you actively take note of and criticize all those mainstream cliches
I'd like to see the score breakdown but Bebop in Japan for some reason Filmarks shows it for movies but not TV shows. for example you can tell people overwhelmingly dislike The Ring (I guess Hollywood cliches are more noticeable in horror and/or it's older people shitting on it)
Filmarks' (Japanese IMDB's) score for live action Bebop isn't hugely smaller than its score for The Shining and that's kinda fucked up. IMDB is better about that
I don't care if this is ironic I'd still rather the OP anime animator & episode director not encourage more "discourse"
"it's a joke" still leads to this
not QTing to argue with the One Piece PR guy but this reads like cope cuz I doubt Oda was talking about OP being too long to catch up with; more likely he's been misled into thinking OP is too Japanese and America can make it truly global
Oda said he's "African" so Usopp likely IS meant to be a black lightskin in the manga; no one wants to admit it cuz of the lips. no lines in this trailer, can't judge the acting
why is Luffy so downbeat. not one moment of him being extremely happy or angry or sad
Sanji is meant to be goofy but legitimately handsome; his actor looks like how Oda caricatures handsomeness
