In this 🧵 I look at the evidence behind many of the statements @RobertKennedyJr made on @joerogan re vaccine safety in the first 60 minutes of the show.

Both "sides" may be surprised by my conclusions

Though we sometimes disagree, I like RFK, Jr

Let me know what I got wrong
✅The Danish study mentioned by @RobertKennedyJr of the DPT vax & infant mortality (note my friend, @StabellBenn an author) was IMO a very convincing natural experiment.
DTP vax WAS associated with 5x higher mortality in infants; 10x higher in girls. ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/P… Image
This is not the same as the TDAP currently given in the US but is still apparently given in Africa & Southeast Asia (@RobertKennedyJr says by Bill Gates)
Can anyone verify this?
✅From what I can find on the Gates Foundation website this may still be true gatesfoundation.org/ideas/media-ce…
Does the Guyer study in Pediatrics say <1% of the decline in pediatric infectious mortality is due to vaccines?
❌? Perhaps he meant <10%?
See below; I'm just not finding anything about <1% of the decline being due to vaccines.
publications.aap.org/pediatrics/art… Image
Then @RobertKennedyJr says there have been no placebo controlled trials for childhood vaccine safety.

❌What does he mean? Just one example is for the rotavirus vaccine Rotateq. It's a placebo controlled efficacy & safety trial of 70,000 infants
nejm.org/doi/10.1056/NE…
I disagree w/@RobertKennedyJr 's stance on timing of heb B vax that we shouldn't give it to babies bc they're not at risk at that point (unless mom has it); he even goes on to explain how high risk people "don't want to get it" but isn't that a major reason it's given in infancy?
Re hep B vaccine and risk of autism:
@RobertKennedyJr says "a relative risk of 2 is considered proof of causation as long as there is biological plausibility"
❌ No. Absolutely not true. Of course there can be confounders that cause of RR of 2! What is he saying here?
@RobertKennedyJr discusses autism rates exploding in the 80s & mentions a study from UC Davis finding a tripling that they couldn't explain by diagnostic criteria changes but the lead author said the study found no evidence vaccines were the cuprit.
nytimes.com/2002/10/18/us/…
I could only find the NYT article; was the above study published?
Absence of evidence is not evidence of absence but what's more important here is correlation≠ causation & @RobertKennedyJr seems to suggest the rise in austism is due to vaccines but this hasn't been substantiated
Though RCTs are better, this Danish obs study of >600,000 children born over 11 years in a very homgeneous population found "comparing MMR-vaccinated w/MMR-unvaccinated kids yielded [an] adjusted..hazard ratio of 0.93 (95% CI, 0.85-1.02)"

I think that was it for the first 60 minutes. Obviously anyone willing to fact check this show is risking their reputation if they get things wrong but I did it out of my own curiousity so thought I would share what I found. Curious to get feedback.
If @joerogan is still looking for someone to debate @RobertKennedyJr I am biased but I think it should be a woman & one who realy knows the data so I nominate @StabellBenn
Danes have a debate culture in science that is disappearing in here the US, where beliefs often trump data
Since it's Father's Day, here's my dad, Don, a gradually retiring medical malpractice & personal injury lawyer & wonderful person who taught me to read when in doubt, be able to defend what I say & respect everyone. He just told me he loves waking up & reading @Sensible__Med. Ha. Image

Well, here we are📍

Obs study, but even adjusting for testing & most recent infection, healthcare employees who had received a bivalent booster (in pink, by testing propensity) were more likely to test + for COVID(XBB) than those who hadn't

& some still want vax mandates?
See🧵 twitter.com/i/web/status/1… Image
The authors describe that the strongest association identified with testing covid + was lineage/date of most recent infection.
If you look at those who had had BA 4/5 they tested positive at basically exactly the same rate if they were "up to date" w/bivalent booster or not. Image

I see I need to clarify:

In addition to the 8 SCD due to post-vax myo in the Korean study, there were 13 additional deaths due to fulminant post-vax myo
=21 total post-vax deaths+ 1❤️ transplant

I modified their table to show this
Of the 13, 7 female, 5d1, 5d2, 6 post pfizer twitter.com/i/web/status/1… Image
More about the 13 clinical myo deaths
Ages 24-95
2 were booster doses!
3 after AZ

I realized even though I said there were 21 total deaths in my thread yesterday and I focused on the 8 autopsy proven SCD due to myo, many thought the total post-vax myo death count was 8.
Sorry!
There is so much to learn from this study & I am currently adding it to a paper I am working on re covid vaccine harms, but interesting to see
Age>40 and female sex associated with severe VRM.

Preparing my congressional testimony & I'm curious if anyone can provide me w/statistics & a reference/references about what % or $ amount of CDC's funding comes from the pharmaceutical industry.
Grateful to @akheriaty who was the first one to teach me about the CDC Foundation. Image
@akheriaty I heard my friend @RobertKennedyJr mention @US_FDA gets 50% of its budget from pharma on @unherd. Was wondering what his source was for this & Robert, do you or your fact checkers know the amount of $ @CDCgov *receives* from the pharmaceutical industry?
unherd.com/2023/05/robert… Image
@akheriaty @RobertKennedyJr @US_FDA @unherd @CDCgov Was just shared with me by @Andreafreedom76 & I don't see any major donations from pharmaceutical companies to CDC Foundation in 2022 unless they are "anonymous"
Let me know if I am missing anything. Glad I crowd sourced on this

Just published
🇰🇷Korean nationwide study reports 8 cases of "sudden cardiac death (SCD) attributable to VRM [vaccine-related myocarditis] proved by an autopsy"
All developed<1 week post mRNA vax
2 females, 6 males
3 post dose 1, 5 post dose 2
All <46 yo
academic.oup.com/eurheartj/adva… Image
Note these deaths were not limited to males or dose 2.

This was of a total of approximately 23.5 million people vaccinated in the 12-50 age group, but around 28% of vaccinated received non mRNA & no autopsy proven VRM deaths were due to non-mRNA vax
"All SCD cases attributable to COVID-19 VRM were aged under 45 years and received mRNA vaccines. Vaccine-related myocarditis was the only possible cause of death in all SCD cases....

Next week I'm returning to DC to testify before congress about systemic problems within the CDC, their process for developing public health guidelines, errors made & the scientific integrity of MMWR

The goal is to improve US public health

I'm seeking thoughts, ideas & receipts
Was 2 months ago I was in DC testifying about school closures in the US. I'm thrilled by the conversations it started

I owe so many of you a thank you for your input in that written and spoken testimony. I honestly believe I looked at everything you sent & posted here on Twitter
At that testimony I discussed specifically how the CDC's masking guidelines should not have been based on the confounded observational studies published in MMWR

Masks are just one example of how CDC uses unreliable/flawed data to support their guidelines

Who else is concerned about premature birth risk from new Pfizer RSV vax just recommended by VRBPAC?

Premature births >20% higher in vax arm: 5.7% vs 4.7% p=0.09 (I calculated); underpowered to say if real!

But⬆️also seen w/all 4 formulations (See 2b data right) & GSK RSV vax🧵 Image
Absolutely🤯when Pfizer said all they would have needed to do to determine whether safety signal was real was enroll 5,000 instead of 3,700 in each arm.
What the heck? Why would FDA not make them expand the trial?
(also annoyed this isn't avail to public)
nejm.org/doi/full/10.10…
And if physicians end up tending to give the vaccine earlier in pregnancy to avoid the suspected interference with pertussis vaccine with co-administration this may mean a lot more premature births. ??
And will pertussis cases increase if vax less effective?
