A new rollup has entered the arena... opBNB!

#Binance just announced an optimistic rollup that is already live on testnet.

Did Binance really just fork Optimism and launched their own L2?

Here's a summary of what's going on 👇 Image
1/ opBNB is based on the bedrock version of the Optimism OP Stack that is EVM-compatible.

This rollup is built on top of the existing BNB Chain and not Ethereum Mainnet (like most other Optimistic rollups we have seen so far). Image
2/ Binance claims that opBNB will be pushing gas limits "to a whopping 100M", more than Optimism's 30M gas limit (according to their article).

They claim that opBNB will be able to process 4000 transfers per second with average transaction costs below half a cent.
3/ Not going to lie, the gas limits seem concerningly high, but the technical details of blockchain scalability is not my area of expertise.
4/ BNB will remain the native currency of the opBNB chain.

The new rollup will have "native integration" with the BNB ecosystem, so we can expect a similar on and off-ramp experience directly with the Binance CEX as we do with the existing BNB Chain. Image
5/ In their docs, they seem to hint at the fact that they'll be implement Proto-Danksharding and Danksharding to the existing BNB Chain when possible.

They have also announced their own dedicated storage layer called BNB Greenfield.
6/ The team seems to want to be competitive in the gaming and NFT space to compete with the likes of Polygon with their low fees and easy onboarding experience.

They mention gaming, metaverse and social networks several times in their docs and announcements.
7/ Competition in the general purpose rollup space is fierce right now.

With all the new ZK-rollups entering the space on top of the existing optimistic rollups, developers are spread quite thin. Image
8/ The @BNBCHAIN team is banking on the existing large BSC ecosystem migrates and builds on this new opBNB chain to kickstart the ecosystem.

Will their existing community pull through? Will this just end up fragmenting user base and liquidity across their two existing chains?
9/ Their docs state that opBNB will interoperate with other L2 platforms "like Optimism". Does this mean that it will be connected to @optimismFND 's Superchain?

If so, this would mean a lot of interoperability between opBNB, Optimism and Coinbase's @BuildOnBase L2 coming soon.
10/ I quote tweeted the announcement thread here along with,

the announcement article:

11/ So what are your thoughts?

Will you be experimenting the new BNB L2?
Do you think Binance is bringing anything new or useful to the table?

The bear market hasn't stopped threadors from writing banging content!

This wassie needed a break, so I got Bobo the Bear to curate the list this week!

Here's a list of great threads you may have missed this week!

Time for another edition of #OvercollateralizedSundayReads! Image
1/ DeFi social media... Yep you heard that right.

There's a whole world you haven't been participating in that should be on your radar!

@2lambro illustrates the mystical world of SocialFi with @DeBankDeFi
2/ @eigenlayer launched this week!

If you need an update on what's going on in that world of LSD restaking, be sure to read @francescoweb3's thread on how it works!

What's going on with Tether? Is it all FUD? 😨

🕵️‍♂️ Is there merit to the concerns?

Let's peer behind the curtain of $USDT.

Who audits @Tether_to, what's their circulating supply, and who uses it most? Image
1/ Just an update on the Tether situation if you aren't up to date, people have been dumping USDT in liquidity pools in exchange for other stables.

The @CurveFinance 3pool has been gaining a concerningly large proportion of $USDT compared to other stables. Image
2/ I've been keeping up with the news and thoughts on what other CT thought leaders have been saying about it here:

Another week, another round of great threads by the awesome CT community.

Sorry I've been a little MIA, lots going on in the meatspace, but I'm back now!

Time for another edition of #OvercollateralizedSundayReads! Image
These threads will span more than the past week to catch up on all the amazing threads that I haven't posted since my last roundup!

As usual, I like to keep these roundups short and sweet so you can actually read all of these threads instead of skipping over most of them.
1/ "We're going to onboard the next billion users in crypto!"
I think I heard that catchphrase by almost every crypto founder in the past year.

@0xDesigner broke down his thoughts on what he thinks it'll take for crypto to appeal to the non-crypto native masses.

Fantastic read.

USDC is the backbone of DeFi and much of the crypto ecosystem.

It's been in the news recently because of its release of CCTP and the SEC insinuating that it is a security.

It's time to revisit crypto's darling centralized stablecoin.

A mini-thread update on USDC. 🧵 Image
1/ USDC has been the most trusted stablecoin on-chain.

USDC has maintained above 40% of total on-chain stablecoin transaction volume (followed by USDT and DAI).

These past months, this figure looks closer to 70%.

(CoinGecko stablecoin report) Image
2/ A few stats regarding $USDC:

➡️ $30.37b in circulation.

➡️ 85% of circulating supply on Ethereum mainnet

➡️Minted natively on the following chains: Ethereum, Avalanche, Solana, Algorand, Flow, Hedera, Stellar and Tron Image

A few years ago, Big 4 accounting firm #EY and @Microsoft partnered up to create a blockchain-based solution to improve @Xbox's gaming partner rights and royalty management.

How did that go? Image
1/ The focus of this project was to automate and accelerate Microsoft's royalty payment process.

From contract creation to payment and reconciliation, Microsoft is better able to manage its relationships between game publishers.
2/ According to EY's report, Microsoft is now able to:

1) Digitize contract creation

2) Generate/integrate statements/invoices with #ERP apps and process/record royalties faster and more transparently

While everyone's been in a frenzy with the PEPE madness, I've compiled a list of the best threads over the past week!

Missed last week's edition so this week is double the trouble.

1/ Kicking off with @DeFiMinty's thread on @CurveFinance upcoming stablecoin. Everything you need to know!

Minty's becoming one of my favourite threadors, someone who consistently posts quality information and research. If you don't follow him already, you're missing out
2/ I wasn't kidding when I said Minty's been on fire.

Here's another one of his great threads, highlighting what the @GMX_IO x @chainlink partnership means for Chainlink.
