Thanks to @OsloFF and @HRF for the opportunity to highlight Iran’s #WomanLifeFreedom revolution, and discuss a decades-long theocracy that has hijacked a multi-millennial civilization. A few key takeaways 🧵 #MahsaAmini#KatayounRiahi
2. Iranian women are among the very few in the world who have less rights than their grandmothers did five decades ago. #WomanLifeFreedom#GenderApartheid
3. #MahsaAmini’s murder galvanized a broad-based opposition to the Islamic Republic. This terrifies a regime that has stayed in power through a policy of ‘divide and oppress.’ #WomanLifeFreedom
4. For 44 years, Western policies towards Iran have sought to deal with the symptoms of the Islamic Republic, but not the cause. #WomanLifeFreedom
5. Respect for “cultural differences”? Iranians are risking everything precisely because the Islamic Republic’s despotic culture is NOT theirs. #WomanLifeFreedom
6. The antidote to the Islamic Republic’s ‘divide and oppress’ survival strategy is for us to ‘unite and empower’ Iranian freedom-seekers. #WomanLifeFreedom
7. Young #KianPirfalak and his inclusive rainbow are a reminder of how alien the occupying Islamic Republic regime is to the free Iran we strive for. #WomanLifeFreedom

1. On @TamronHallShow I was asked how Americans can help the Iranian people. I said by calling their representatives & demanding they support an urgent @UN_HRC session on #Iran, to find ways to hold the authorities to account for their rights abuses. Too complicated? 🧵
2. Quote this tweet & mention your representative’s Twitter handle to help the people of Iran:
As your constituent I urge you to stand with the people of Iran & call for an urgent @UN_HRC session to hold Iranian authorities to account for their ongoing rights abuses NOW!
3. Want another easy step to support the Iranian people? Sign this @amnesty petition calling for an end to the bloodshed in Iran and a @UN mechanism to hold the authorities to account. There’s power in numbers!
