@israeltrth @baum_p Firstly, I'm aware you're a troll bot - that's fine, let's do it anyway. I'll do a thread, as you claim to want evidence of #ApartheidIsrael.

@israeltrth @baum_p You’ve asked for specifics about rights, so let’s start there. This is not an exhaustive list but you wanted just ONE example of rights denied to Palestinians.

I’ll give you THREE examples of racist legislation which conform to the international definition of apartheid.
2/24
@israeltrth @baum_p 1. The right to return.

According to the Absentees’ Property Law (1950), Palestinian refugees expelled after November 1947, are “absentees” & are denied any rights. Their land, houses/apartments, & bank accounts (movable & immovable property) were confiscated by the state.
3/24
@israeltrth @baum_p BTW, it’s relevant here that the Law of Return (1950) simultaneously gave Jews from anywhere in the world the right to automatically become Israeli citizens.

Talk about double standards (which is the essence of apartheid).
4/24
@israeltrth @baum_p 2. The right to residency.

For Palestinians who have a “permanent” residency status to live in Jerusalem, entry into and residency in Jerusalem is “a revocable privilege, instead of an inherent right.
5/24
@israeltrth @baum_p Since 1967, nearly 15,000 Palestinians from East Jerusalem have had residency rights revoked, according to the Interior Ministry.

The interior minister can strip residency status of any Palestinian deemed to be a threat. These policies do not apply to the Jewish population.
6/24
@israeltrth @baum_p 3. Basic Law: Israel lands.

The Israel Lands law from 1960 stipulates that the ownership of ‘Israel lands’ controlled by the state, Jewish National Fund (JNF) and the Development Authority (around 93% of all land) can only be transferred between these three entities.
7/24
@israeltrth @baum_p The JNF leases land it owns to Jews only, barring Palestinians from ownership of 80% of land.

There are 60+ such laws, but this is enough to be going along with because the crux of the issue here on Twitter is this (next tweet):
8/24
@israeltrth @baum_p Apartheid apologists line up to claim that Israel is not an apartheid state, but the international community, & Palestinians on the ground, know this is a lie. It's plain to see, & denial does not make it go away, as racist white South Africans found out...
9/24
@israeltrth @baum_p In March 2022, the UN confirmed what non-racists all over the world already knew: “apartheid is being practiced by Israel in the occupied Palestinian territory.” You can read about this here: news.un.org/en/story/2022/…
10/24
@israeltrth @baum_p This report didn’t send shockwaves round the world. The world already knew it – we’d been passing UN Resolutions against Israeli apartheid for 40 years!
11/24
@israeltrth @baum_p The UN Special Rapporteur for the occupied Palestinian territory (OPT), Michael Lynk, said: “There is today in the Palestinian territory occupied by Israel since 1967 a deeply discriminatory dual legal and political system…” (next tweet).
12/24
@israeltrth @baum_p “…that privileges the 700,000 Israeli Jewish settlers living in the 300 illegal Israeli settlements in East Jerusalem and the West Bank.” This UN report drew specific parallels between Israeli and South African apartheids.
13/24
@israeltrth @baum_p The report explained that Israel conforms to the internationally agreed legal definition (Article 7 of the Rome Statute on the International Criminal Court, 1998) as a (next tweet)…
14/24
@israeltrth @baum_p “political regime which so intentionally and clearly prioritizes fundamental political, legal and social rights to one group over another, within the same geographic unit on the basis of one’s racial-national-ethnic identity”.
15/24
@israeltrth @baum_p Incidentally, 123 countries ratified the Rome Statute. Israel wasn’t one of them…

The UN Security Council & General Assembly have stated in hundreds of resolutions that Israel’s annexation of occupied territory is unlawful.
16/24
@israeltrth @baum_p UN resolutions have condemned Israel’s construction of hundreds of Jewish settlements as illegal, & stated that its denial of Palestinian self-determination breaches international law.
17/24
@israeltrth @baum_p The report linked to above slams the lack of accountability that has followed the UN resolutions, saying that we wouldn’t be talking about apartheid today if the international community had acted on those resolutions over four decades.
18/24
@israeltrth @baum_p “Apartheid is not, sadly, a phenomenon confined to the history books on southern Africa,” the report concluded. Here’s a link to the full report. I’m sure you’ll want to read it…
documents-dds-ny.un.org/doc/UNDOC/GEN/…
19/24
@israeltrth @baum_p Uncountable international figures have described Israel’s occupation as apartheid.

Here’s just a few of them: seeing as you brought him up, first on the list is Nelson Mandela (and he’d know, as you know), Archbishop Desmond Tutu is another.
20/24
@israeltrth @baum_p Former UN Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon, South African Foreign Minister Naledi Pandor, and even former Israeli Attorney General Michael Ben-Yair – the list is pretty much endless and includes everyone who cares about truth.
21/24
@israeltrth @baum_p But there are international respected organisations lining up to condemn Israeli apartheid too.

These include: Amnesty International. Here’s a link to their campaign: amnesty.org/en/latest/camp…
22/24
@israeltrth @baum_p And, Human Rights Watch. Their report, entitled ‘A Threshold Crossed: Israeli Authorities and the Crimes of Apartheid and Persecution’ can be found here: hrw.org/report/2021/04…
23/24
@israeltrth @baum_p Denying Israeli apartheid is risible. It puts you on the wrong side of history and identifies you simply as a racist. Who knew troll bots could be racist…

Thread on the invasion of Ukraine.

To be clear: my view is that Russia should never have invaded Ukraine & should leave immediately. However, I also believe that the invasion was inevitable as a result of western aggression & that western propaganda will prolong conflict. 1/41
Throughout this tragic war, Vladimir Putin has been portrayed by our media as nothing more than a psychotic megalomaniac hell-bent on aggressive action, his concerns about NATO expansion being dismissed as the ravings of a madman. 2/41
This juvenile propaganda guarantees a continuation of hostilities & does nothing for the people of Ukraine.

A more thorough grasp of history is required to understand how it is that a new Cold War, replete with nuclear threat, once again throws its shadow across Europe. 3/41

Alok Sharma choking up at #Cop26 is peak hypocrisy.

These are just some of the times he voted against measures to prevent climate catastrophe when he was Tory Business Secretary. 1/20 #CopOut26

The Guardian's #PandoraPapers 'revelations' aren't revelations at all, they're part of how tax avoidance is enabled, i.e. creating an appearance of outrage to assuage genuine outrage, & tacitly suggest there'll be consequences. See thread for periodic airing of the same story...
Let’s focus on a fraction of the last 10 years of ‘reporting’ in The Guardian alone, which peppers its latest coverage of this long-known practice with adjectives like ‘exposes’ & ‘secret’ & ‘revelation’ – its none of that. They’ve known all along this is happening, as do we…
2011 – We’ll begin with a useful explanation of what a tax ‘haven’ actually is (the clue is in the word ‘haven’): theguardian.com/business/2011/…

We are a police state, with poverty as deliberate policy, we defend apartheid & arm genocidal regimes, we ignore international law, we break treaties, we host global corruption, our covid-19 response failed, we promote racist hostility: we are a failed state. #ToryBritain
The reason the world is in such a mess is because morally bereft states like Britain conspire with others to accumulate all the wealth & power. The brazen confidence of this evil empire means we don't even try to hide mechanisms like permanent seats on the UN Security Council.
All attempts to break this hegemony, to live outside this international model, are destroyed in infancy by armed conflict, economic armageddon & illegal coups, with alternative philosophies demonised so effectively they are despised by the very people they seek to emancipate.
