So far the search has been on the surface and under the water using sonar buoys over an area the size of the state of Connecticut!

Additional assets still on the way (as of 4hrs ago). I really hope some subsurface vessels or ROVs are part of that «additional support»… :/

Question: Can’t we just send down another vessel and transfer them? No, the submersible has no hatch. They are basically drilled shut in order to withstand the extreme pressure. They need to get an ROV down there and secure Titan on the seafloor and bring it to the surface.

Not sure about that ETA? I’m tracking it on marinetraffic. Seems like a somewhat ambitious reporting (guess the press is struggling with cross checking their data).

I try to keep this thread as informative as possible without too many speculations or giving into the blamegames. Must keep feelings aside as well..however…my thoughts are running wild. There are five souls down there whereof a 19 year old boy. This is so fucking tragic.

The seabed is about 40 F/ 4 Celsius. If the sub has lost power it could be sitting on the seabed, causing ppl to shiver. This could increase oxygen consumption by around three times, according to Mike Tipton (Head of the extreme environments laboratory at Portsmouth University).

RCN ship HMCS Glace Bay has been dispatched. The ship provides a medical team specializing in dive medicine and a six person mobile hyperbaric recompression chamber. Because even if they manage to rescue them, they might get decomp.sickness due to rapid decreases in pressure

Titan can withstand 150 million pounds of pressure.

The submersible have seven backup systems to return to the surface, including sandbags and lead pipes that drop off and an inflatable balloon. One system is designed to work even if everyone aboard is unconscious.(source: Pogue)

As far as we know, NO there are no sounds from the vessel. Only unconfirmed reports that some clicking/banging noises were heard (30min intervals) monday (some say tuesday), without being exactly sure of their origin.

Somehow the media (slow as they are) are spinning this for clicks today, suggesting there are active noises coming from the vessel NOW.
