This video was uploaded to Twitter tonight by Rob Primo, one of the louder "freedom convoy" protesters in Niagara, harassing my long-time colleague @BobTym, a fantastic photojournalist who has served the community for decades.
There is no excuse for harassing journalists.🧵
In this video, Primo screams at Bob, calling him a liar and a "piece of shit.," in a barrage of vulgar insults.
The truth is Bob Tymczyszyn is one of the best photojournalists in the country, who does an exemplary job for this community and is a pillar of the @StCatStandard
Not only is he a great photographer, but a kind and patient man and a consummate professional, as you can see in this video. A person is screaming at him, calling him names, lying about him and shoving a finger in his face, and Bob stayed cool, polite and professional.
Bob was always there for those of us on the Standard team who were just starting out in newspapering. He still is. He has taken some of the most poignant and memorable photos that document Niagara's history. He does not deserve to be treated like this by anyone.
This is evidence, filmed by a "freedom convoy" protester and in his own voice, showing the kind of harassment journalists have been subjected to on a constant basis for years now.
Local newspaper journalists and photojournalists keep the public informed, resulting in harassment like this. It is dangerous:

I'm proud of the work Bob and the team at the @StCatStandard have done and continue to do. Without them, the Niagarans would have no idea what is going on in their community. So please support the Niagara Dailies and subscribe so they can continue to bring you the news you need.
You can also read our joint @TheSpec/@StCatStandard investigation into the rising tide of hate in Ontario:
This is the protester who lead a nighttime protest outside the home of Niagara's medical officer of health. He accused Dr. Hirji of war crimes and shouted vulgar insults over a megaphone. The protesters also shone a strobe at Dr. Hirji's windows.
He also had choice words for the residents of the neighbour who came out in response to the yelling and noise to object, accusing them of supporting "genocide" and threatening to return in larger numbers:
A sampling of the comments from Primo's Facebook page where he also shared the video - folks cheering on his behaviour.

By way of a follow to the above: there is still not much information, but does this mean some foreign entity is messing around with the school board? Maybe?
It is not difficult (using a VPN for instance) to send a message that shields where a person is sending that message from.
There are networks that cross borders. The "freedom convoy" networks stretch into the US. While reporting on the pandemic, for instance, I got death threats and hate mail from the US. My recent investigation into "White Lives Matters" showed those networks are international.
Also of note, anti-LGBTQ+ protesters are planning a protest tomorrow outside the Niagara Catholic Board's offices and one at the Hamilton public board tonight.
This is what happened when they targeted the Niagara public board last week:
At this point, it is not clear what triggered the lockdown. The board is set to debate the pride flag again tomorrow, and aside from the protesters, a school board member is under fire for comparing the pride flag to a Nazi flag:
A few thoughts on Twitter labelling select public broadcasters as "gov funded media" including the CBC English, BBC, NPR and ABC (Australia) which is, frankly, an attempt to discredit legit journalism. 🧵
The move to label CBC this way comes after Poillivere asked Twitter to do so and is now behaving as though some kind of secret has been exposed...instead of the reality that CBC's funding model has been public record for its ENTIRE existence of 90 years.
Also worth noting here, CBC decides its own editorial direction, not the government of the day. The CBC was funded in this way under Tory and Liberal governments, including the Tory gov Poillivere was part of under Harper.
A recent vicious hate campaign directed at those female journalists has highlighted the extent of the problem which exists in a rage-filled ecosystem fueled by populist politicians and "freedom movement" figures alike.
The attempt to silence journalists reduces the nation's ability to push back against conspiracy theories and disinformation, says @jhrnews exec. dir @Rachel_Pulfer
Of interest to Niagara readers, the MP on the far left is Niagara's West's Dean Allison. This was taken at the meeting of some MPs with the anti-vax, "freedom" movement reps in Ottawa today. Follow @Justin_Ling's thread for more details.
Good morning Niagara. Here is a local #COVID19 data snapshot. There remain those claiming the pandemic is over, but the data says otherwise. Nearly all major indicators are moving ⬆️⬆️ at a brisk pace. (thread)
Keep in mind the usual reminder: Extreme limits on PCR testing and less than robust contact tracing result in less accurate, and likely vast under counts, metrics including new cases per day, total cases etc.
Starting with new cases per day in our signpost data, you can see confirmed cases remain high, probably historically so, with no sign yet that they are falling locally.
