Star Ocean: Second Story is my fav game of all time,
so i've got mixed feelings on this;
new art looks great; new combat additions seem interesting;
I hate the the new angles for the maps & everything looks washed out with the light effects & smoothening

but as you can tell the style is basically digital fmv backgrounds with ps1 era sprite models;
Close angles almost always only show up in cutscenes & there is lighting effects but they don't cover up the models

Honestly, this new version of Star Ocean Second Story looks kinda tacky & hideous in comparison #starocean
From what I can tell the devs took the character models from the original, redid the backgrounds & maps added the models & then smothered on lighting effects & shadows
so messy; rather the models weren't covered up & if they are doing a hd hi-res style, just redo the models

For Star Ocean 2 remake at least the devs did get the anime profiles correct though;
