Last Sunday, I came to check on our school and everything was fine. We came to play basketball with our summer program students on Wednesday and saw a window was broken into.
I entered the building and heard noises. I’m seeing almost everything deliberately destroyed.
I held the intruders at gun point until the police arrived.
Sinks were pulled out of the walls, toilets smashed, glass busted everywhere, uniforms and merchandise destroyed, etc.
A few things were stolen but it was personal. They took a picture of me and threw it in the alley.
Destroyed our main school logo on the wall, ripped doors from the hinges, etc etc. I can go on.
Some of the things that were taken, those 3 people I caught couldn’t get alone.
I just know this was coordinated.
My students were in complete shock as they had to watch me hold someone at gunpoint. We took so much time working on this building. So many volunteers came from across the country, etc.
But we still smile and we praised God on Sunday, in spite of it all!
I honestly didn’t want to talk about this. I truly didn’t. I just wanted to keep moving. But my team has insisted that I let the public know what has happened.
Before you ask, I had the power cut at our facility after the city made us leave due to a storm that came in Oct/Nov.… twitter.com/i/web/status/1…
Thankfully we’re still able to operate out of our office building and no one was hurt in this process. 🙏🏿
I may get pushback for saying this, but I honestly felt sorry for one of them. He’s going through a divorce and has a son and he started to become remorseful. I looked him up and I just got sad at the entire situation in general.
I know everyone is asking about rebuilding etc. Right now, my focus remains on getting the tuition covered for the rest of our students. We live in one of the poorest cities in the country. Their parents cannot afford it. 🙏🏿
If I was, my students would be much better off. I want to eradicate our failed public school system where 80% of the children are AA. Teachers and children need it.
I teach any student to never be defeated. Using your logic, they’d still be battling depression and in YDC.
It’s plenty of days where I sit and stress how we are gonna pay the bills for our students and I have to go work to make it happen. I funded this program years ago by painting houses, fixing cars, and cutting hair. I just refused to be defeated. Nobody knew me.
I had people from our local community donating water for us and all. Folks don’t really know but they think they do.
This was me and 40 students at my Grandmas house summer 2021 because a black superintendent and his black cronies didn’t want to sell us a school building.
