The War of Mahabharata (Mega Thread Series)
Thread 1 : The Greatest War

नारायणं नमस्कृत्य नरं चैव नरोत्तमम्।
देवीं सरस्वतीं व्यासं ततो जयमुदीरयेत्।।

Mahabharata is just not a story. Its history of India.
Its not a mythology as read in school books

1/16 https://t.co/eLOx2xmRi5twitter.com/i/web/status/1…
Discovery of ancient Dwarka city submerged in arabian sea proves that Mahabharata is real

Excavations at Sinauli and Old Fort at Delhi also prove existence of Mahabharata

But this is also true that honest attempts were never made to discover evidence of Mahabharata by Govts
Discovery of evidence of Mahabharata will prove that thousands of years ago there was a great civilization in India.

Warriors of that civilization was having advance knowledge of weapons and warfare

Mahabharata also talks about advance medical science, time travel, mind control
Mahabharata war was fought between two cousin brothers

King Yudhishthira and King Duryodhana

for throne of Hastinapura. This war was so big that all kings of India participated from either of side.

The War laid foundation for Bhagavad Gita, most sacred text for Hindus
When did It start ?

Exact answer is still not clear but few schoolers have estimated date on basis of astronomical position mentioned in Mahabharata.

It started on Nov - Dec 3140 BC (5157 years ago) at the battlefield of Kurukshetra. This war was fought for 18 days.
Kaurava (Duryodhana Army) fought with 11 battalions Pandava (Yudhishthira Army) 7 battalions

One battalion consists of
21,870 chariots
21,870 elephants
65,610 horses
09,350 infantry

Total 39.4 lacs people participated in war and at the end only 12 Warriors could survive.
12 warriors who survived Kurukshetra war are :

From Pandava Side
Krishna
Arjuna
Bhima
Yudhishthira
Nakula
Sahadeva
Yuyutsu
Satyaki

From Kaurava Side
Kritavarma
Ashwatthama
Kripacharya
Vrishaketu
Bhisma was the Senapati (Commander in Chief) of Kaurava Army

Brother of Draupdi, Dhristdyumn was Senapati of Pandava Army

Krishna's Narayani Sena fought from Kaurava's side

Almost all kings of India fought the battle from either Kaurava or Pandava's side.
Kaurava Sena major warriors:

Bhishma
Dronacharya
Karna
Duryodhana
Ashwathama
Kripacharya
Yadava warrior Kritaverma
Madra King Salya
Jayadrath
Mahishmati King Nila
Naraka king Bhagdutta
Trigat King Susharma
Shakuni
Pandava Warriors:

Arjuna with Krishna as Sarathi (Charioteer)
Bhima
Abhimanyu
Yadava warrior Satyaki
Ghatotkach
Dhrishtadyumna
Drupad
Matsaya King Virata
What was the age of Warriors at the time of war ?

No exact answer but estimation is

Krishna was 89 year old at the time of war
Arjuna was 6 month younger of Krishna
Yudhisthir was 91 year old
Bheema was 1 year 19 days older than Arjuna
Duryodhana was 1 day younger than Bheema
Nakula and Sahadeva were 88 year old

Its said Krishna left the earth after 36 years of Mahabharata war at the age of 125 years, 7 month on the basis of this its estimated that he was 91 year old at the time of war.
Three persons were neutral in this war-

The king of Bhojakata Rukmi
Vidura
Balarama

Maharathi Yuyutsu was only Kaurava who fought from Pandava side and was only Kaurav who survived at the end.
Pandava army was organized by Arjuna in Vajra formation.

Since Pandava army was smaller, they decided to employ tactic of each warrior engaging as many enemies.

This involved an element of surprise, with the bowmen showering arrows hiding behind the frontal attackers.
Kaurava army's 10 divisions were arranged in a formidable phalanx.

11th was put under the immediate command of Bhishma to protect him.

Duryodhana's younger brother Dushasana was the military officer in-charge of Bhishma's protection.
The first arrowed of war was fired by Dushasan.
