I get that a lot of people don't understand what I'm about to say.

They haven't followed political campaigns since the 1988 race between George W. Bush & Michael Dukakis.

They just follow sound bites, the current news cycle, listen to their authority figures/influencers.

Ron DeSantis had a small window to begin with.

He needed a fantastic campaign launch and big momentum on the campaign trail to begin closing the gap with Trump.

It didn't happen.

The window is now closed.

People who don't understand how the politics of campaigning works think its fine that after his campaign launch and then being on the trail for about a month, DeSantis not only didn't gain any ground, he slid **BACKWARDS**.

They don't grasp what they're watching.

After months of playing coy, and delaying his announcement while he waited for the FL state legislature to change the 'resign to run' law so he could safely return to the FL governor's mansion in case he couldn't unseat Trump, DeSantis' big moment arrived.

And NOTHING HAPPENED.

Never in all my years of following these campaigns for President since 1988 have I watched a candidate drop 30 pts in the polls while everybody patiently waited for him to make his announcement & launch his campaign.

"Don't worry!" I was told. "Once he starts campaigning..."

All righty THEN.

DeSantis finally announced, launched his campaign and has been on the trail for about a month.

Any momentum?

Any momentum AT ALL?

"Well its early yet. Let's give it time!" I keep being told.

Here's what people who say this don't understand:

The entire DeSantis campaign donor team behind the scenes was PLANNING on Trump being indicted to cause a massive abandonment of the former President by his base.

Which DeSantis would then IMMEDIATELY move to capitalize on.

Its a month from the indictment and the DeSantis launch.

The movement AWAY FROM Trump and TOWARDS DeSantis is supposed to be UNDERWAY BY NOW.

And its not happening.

The base is not budging.

And waiting another month HOPING this movement starts manifesting itself?

Futile.

Time is not going to cure this problem.

Watching all the usual GOPe suspects, all rabid Never-Trumpers, eagerly lining up behind DeSantis caused that massive 30 pt drop since January of this year.

To make that ground back up, DeSantis needs a MASSIVE BOOST.

If people think the DeSantis campaign can run in place for the next couple of months or even continue sliding backwards while they wait for a miracle to occur that removes Trump's massive advantage, I have some bad news for them.

Successful Presidential campaigns run on donated money, volunteer enthusiasm and a big ground game.

To keep the $ coming in, the people volunteering in the state campaign offices and knocking on doors and fundraising, to build the ground game you need 2 things;

MOMENTUM

So if you're telling yourself the DeSantis campaign can keep RUNNING IN PLACE or even sliding a bit further down the side of Mt. Trump and they'll just start making up that ground at last in August or September?

It would have happened by now.

And it didn't happen.

There's no momentum. No enthusiasm.
