Today I will introduce the #Skyranger 30 A3 Air Defence System from @RheinmetallAG. Skyranger is a mobile SHORAD system for close and short range air defence. How will the Skyranger mainly be used and what can it actually do to protect ground forces. The bar is high. 1/

The Skyranger 30 will be deployed in an Air Defence Command and Control network. In accordance with the expected air threats, protection will be provided for ground forces on the move, space covering and all around. This System will be involved in their operational command.

What does that mean? In the event of a counterattack, for example, the firefight is usually initiated during the movement, conducted from a halt or from positions taken quickly. Anti Aircraft Systems are integrated into the unit to be protected and are deployed overlapping. 3/

In the process, escorting air defense systems like the Skyranger have "main fighting areas" that overlap gapless. This prevents air threats from attacking the unit being protected. In addition the space is protected by long-range air defense missile systems (space protection) 4/

After the reactivation of the Gepard into the Bundeswehr failed in 2021/22, the focus is on a new air defense system. Here, the #Skyranger 30 with mixed armament (gun and missile) or the Skyranger 35 with its powerful 35 mm revolver gun, may play a role in the future. 5/

The Oerlikon Skyranger 30 A3 continuously monitors the surrounding air space with active (3D AESA radar) and passive sensors. In addition to its own air picture, targets from external search radars or higher order control systems are received and
processed.

@Rheinmetall #Skyranger 30 A3 is mobile and has powerful #anti-aircraft weapons. Because to its design, it is a different system than the #Gepard. Due to its modern components, the Skyranger is capable of performing the tasks assigned to it on the modern Battlefield.
