1/ NEW - Only on @CrimeWatchMpls:
Activists have been circulating a rumor since last week that Minneapolis police beat a Native male during the execution of a warrant in north Minneapolis on June 27 and that the alleged beating resulted in his death on July 3.
2/ The allegation is that police beat Miles Jackson "to the point he was brain dead."
3/ However, this is Miles Jackson when he was booked into Hennepin County Jail on June 27, 2023, following the warrant service.
He does not appear to be brain dead in a medical sense, nor severely beaten.
4/ The warrant/charge under which Miles Jackson was booked describes that police executed a warrant at an address on the 700 block of N 21st Ave on June 27, during which Jackson attempted to flee and allegedly tossed drugs, which were recovered.
5/ The complaint describes that Miles Jackson was briefly hospitalized following his arrest and prior to his subsequent booking.
If Miles Jackson had been brain dead or injured severely, wouldn't it be incumbent upon the hospital to diagnose injuries and hold him for treatment?
6/ Court records show that Miles Jackson made an in-person court appearance in Hennepin County in front of Judge Melissa Houghtaling on June 29, 2023. If Miles Jackson was brain dead or severely injured wouldn't the judge or his public defender Peter Martin have noticed?
7/ Miles Jackson was subsequently ordered conditionally released from custody, but was transferred to Anoka County Jail on June 30 and was booked on an outstanding warrant in that county.
Miles Jackson would have passed through multiple hands and chains of custody at that point.
8/ Miles Jackson's family is apparently claiming that he suffered cardiac arrest at Anoka County Jail on July 3, 2023, and claim it resulted from the alleged "beating" they say took place on June 27, 2023.
9/ Once the claims of Miles Jackson's death began circulating on social media, the always-available Michelle Gross piped up and told people to stop talking about it because she didn't want the BCA involved (huh?). She said people should wait for "further instructions."
10/ Sources familiar with the incident say the beating claim is dubious and suggest the death was medical. (no autopsy report has been made available yet)
Community activist Lisa Clemons also claims "a lot of misinformation is being put out" about the incident.
11/ Crime Watch has requested documents, the police report, and video related to the original warrant service. We'll let you know if we receive a response to our requests.
