Once we did those two things, it became a waiting game for Google to recognize the changes and adjust rankings accordingly.
1. On-Page Optimization
On-page optimization for a Product page is simple.
We edited the Product page to include our target keyword in the pages:
• Meta Title
• Meta Description
• H1 tag
• H2 tag
• URL slug
We also added the keyword throughout the product description.
2. Internal Linking Optimization
Optimizing the internal linking of a site at the start of an SEO campaign is one of the highest ROI actions you can take.
If done correctly, you can funnel the authority from existing backlinks to other, more important pages on the site.
In this case, we wanted to funnel the authority from existing backlinks to a Product page that was targeting a keyword with 85,000 monthly searches.
Here's the process we used to do this:
First, we plugged the site's URL into Ahref's Site Explorer.
Then, underneath the "Pages" menu on the left sidebar, we click "Best by links."
This page gave a list of all the pages on the site with backlinks.
We sorted through the list and identified all of the informational content that was relevant to the Product page we were trying to increase rankings for.
We then edited that page and included an internal link to the Product page.
This allowed us to funnel the authority from existing backlinks pointing to each of these pages to the Product page.
And increase the Product page's rankings for our target keyword.
The result of these two actions was the Product page moving up to the #4 position for its target keyword that was getting 85,000 searches per month.
The Product page is now getting THOUSANDS of additional clicks every month, which is leading to a ton of sales.
