🚨🚨🚨This is a big deal!!!

I’ve independently verified that this user is a former Shopify employee.

They’re violating their contract and becoming a whistleblower, alleging some of the top ranks of Shopify may be making some worrying ideological decisions.
A little while back, I interviewed Shopify employees (with promised anonymity - they feared losing their jobs).

They expressed concerns about Shopify’s decision to work with LibsofTikTok

There was an internal outcry that appeared to fall on deaf ears.
globalnews.ca/news/9294721/s…
As part of that investigation, I was sent a copy of a memo Shopify circulated to employees after it was revealed that they were providing services to Brietbart.

That memo was titled: “Why it might be hard for you to work for Shopify.” Image
It details a “tension” Shopify employees have to “hold” between “opposing ideas that may need to co-exist.”

Shopify makes a “deliberate tradeoff” to “enable more opportunity,” particularly for those “whoʼve historically been shut out or shut down by prevailing economic systems.” Image
Disagree?

You can talk to your boss about whether you can “continue to feel engaged” at Shopify.

To me, that reads like you can leave the job.

But what is that tradeoff?

Shopify says makes sure merchants 1) adhere to the law and 2) don’t violate the Acceptable Use Policy. Image
But when you look at who Shopify provides services to, it's unclear how they interpret that AUP.

I looked into the source code of a number of websites – including some first flagged by @nandoodles – and found that Shopify provides merchant services to some very sketchy stores.
Like stores selling Nazi merchandise (see below)

It also works withwebsites like the Daily Wire, which sells transphobic products.

For example, the Daily Wire sells a chocolate bar that’s a direct backlash to the inclusion of a trans woman in a Hershey’s campaign.

This might be a good time to point who is in the upper ranks at Shopify.

Shopify’s COO is Kaz Nejatian, a fired staffer of Jason Kenney’s who is married to Candice Malcolm – top dog at True North.

Here’s an example of True North’s content, and Kaz saying he likes their work:

All in all, it appears that Shopify is helping some far-right folks to monetize and profit from transphobic products -- despite internal protests.

Now there's a whistleblower.

I think this is a story to watch.

The Walrus article on Poilievre is totally insipid.

Paul Wells paints a picture of Poilievre as privately courteous and friendly, based on Wells' PERSONAL access - as a white man with power.

I've heard stories about his private interactions that paint a very different picture.
It also frames Poilievre's overtures to elites as "exceptions" (literally, that's the word he uses) in a campaign to otherwise appeal to normal folks

Wells mentions ONE event (of course, having to note that he knows one of the rich attendees lmfao -- never miss a chance to flex)
But Wells doesn't breathe a word of Poilievre's documented ties to Shopify broligarchs.

He doesn't note two fundraisers held at the mansion of a private healthcare profiteer.

He doesn't talk about his longstanding admiration for conspiratorial millionaires like Jordan Peterson

Are there TRAITORS in Parliament? Not quite.

In fact, disinformation is a bigger threat to our democratic institutions than just about anything else.

That's just a taste of what we learned from the JUICY 860 PAGE foreign interference report released today.

Here's the rest:

BREAKING NEWS BABY: FOREIGN INTERFERENCE

My top three takeaways from the FRESH report:

1. Our institutions are ~robust~ despite efforts to ding em
2. THERE ARE NO TRAITORS IN PARLIAMENT
3. Disinformation is the REAL threat

And they want leaders to get security clearance. lol
Disinformation threatens democracy, IT'S OFFICIAL Image
NSICOP -- the group of parliamentarians who put out that report on the "witting" and "semi-witting" participants in foreign interference -- done fucked up.

Good thing they didn't release the names. We can end that witch hunt now! Image

I'm listening to Poilievre's interview with Rex Murphy.

Let me start by saying this: if any unestablished journalist showed as much naked deference to a politician during an interview as Rex is showing to Poilievre right now, they'd probably never work again.
"Hamas is a genocidal death cult that is determined to carry out a genocide on Israelis, and that would of course only be the starting point," Poilievre said, about 14 minutes in.

No mention of Gaza or Palestinians as of yet.
On massive pro-Palestine rallies:

"I have no problem with supporting a Pale- a cause that is favourable to the Palestinian people, but right now we're seeing is an agenda that is not pro-Palestinian, it is pro-Hamas," Poilievre says.

This is not an accurate characterization.

In 2022, while living in Tunisia as part of a JHR placement, I interviewed the cameraman who filmed Shireen Abu Akleh's murder -- as well as Palestinian journalists who knew her.

My newsroom spiked the story.

But I still have my notes, from my interviews.

Here they are.
Abu Akleh, 51, was a prominent Palestinian-American reporter for Al Jazeera.

She was shot dead as she covered an Israeli raid in the occupied West Bank, sparking global condemnation.
For Al Jazeera cameraman Majdi Banura, who filmed Abu Akleh's reports for 25 years, she was more than a famous journalist.

She was "a friend, sister and colleague."

On May 11, Banura filmed one final frame featuring Abu Akleh: the moment she was gunned down in Jenin.

Yikes, this is a massive oopsie at a time when Russian disinformation efforts are actively (and falsely) trying to portray average Ukrainians as Neo-Nazis in an disgusting attempt at justifying Putin’s war.
Context, since it’s lacking in the PMO statement:
They basically handed the Russians propaganda ammunition they can use against Zelenskyy.

The dude unknowingly applauded a guy who served in a Nazi military unit! On camera! Because of Canada’s fuck up!

That is not good!!
