Have I got a story for you. It starts with a simple tip that someone has done a FOIA request for all 7 million voter signature cards in Georgia. I was able to get a screenshot of the request. It's much more insane than I could have possibly thought and people need to know.
Image
Image
The requester is a guy named Vince Espi who claims to be a "reporter for the Peach Tree Times." More on him later but look at what he wants and think about the implications of a malicious actor getting the info he asks for in signature cards a year from a Presidential election.
Look at this list and always keep in mind why does a "reporter" need this? "Copies of the signature cards used in the election process, including all relevant information associated with each card, such as the voter's name, address, and signature."
He lays out precisely what he wants
1) Voter signature cards
2) Absentee or ballot signature cards
3) Provisional ballot signature cards
4) Any other signature cards collected during the election process

You're talking about 7M records that will need redaction. Again, why?
So Vince Espi says he's a member of the media so he gets the fees waived. Is he? He claims Peach Tree Times. They are part of an astroturf media network. More on them later. You see Vince has lots of jobs but his real job is being a right wing data miner. Google helps.
He's a busy beaver with lots of jobs. Here he works for "LocalLabs" in Illinois and in April 2023 wanted the mission statement of Antioch schools in Illinois. antioch34.com/cms/lib/IL0221…
Here he is again back in October, 2020 working for LocalLabs asking for two years of records on any guest speakers at Illinois' Crystal Lake School district northwest of Chicago. d47.org/cms/lib/IL0190…
Here is a fun one for Jacksonville, Illinois school district with LocalLabs again in September, 2021 requesting "A list of all materials in your district that fall under the 1619 project." jsd117.org/board_of_educa…
October, 21 he hit Union Ridge Schools with the whole list of Moms for Liberty questions from LocalLabs:
1) COVID-19 Protocol Response
2) 1619 Project Curriculum
3) American Rescue Plan Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief
campussuite-storage.s3.amazonaws.com/prod/1558520/7…
If you Google Vince Espi + Peach Tree Times he never shows up. His company is LocalLabs and they advertise themselves as a data miner for media. What news media? Peach Tree Times is part of a huge right wing astroturf op of "local" news sites funded by a network of cut outs.
Columbia Journalism Review did a deep dive on this dark money operation and it's many layers of foundations and cut out organizations to hide the money tied to "Metric Media." It's insane how big this operation is. Read the two stories here. cjr.org/tow_center_rep…
How do I know Peach Tree Times is part of this vast astroturf network...they tell you right on the About Page. It's actually a 501c3 which tells you how broken the IRS system is for nonprofit oversight. Image
Here is the number one story on this GA "local news" site right now. A hard hitting story about how we need to pay attention to the...Texas border. Notice the story is based on militia Tea Party Patriots (the founder of TPP is also founder of Metric Media) https://t.co/YkOeXkarYXpeachtreetimes.com/stories/647514…

So, Vince Espi is not a reporter by any means. He's a well funded data miner for far right groups asking questions right out of the Moms for Liberty playbook. Now he is requesting ALL of the signatures of every voter in Georgia pretending to be a reporter to get it for free.
What would far right groups do with every single voters name, address and signature? Intimidate people who are scared that their signature might look different? Target them with disinfo? Get them kicked off the voter roles? What is Georgia doing about this outrageous request?
Why haven't we heard about it until now? Is @GaSecofState quietly going to give millions of Georgians personal info to a dark money front group? Does @staceyabrams, @ossoff or @ReverendWarnock know about this? I have heard it's about $.30 per record in fees. That's $2.1M if paid.
If I was a Georgia voter I would be losing my shit right now knowing that Election offices around the state are working on filling this request and giving your info to a fake news group for uncertain reasons. This is voter intimidation, suppression, and anti-democracy in action.
What about @BrianKempGA are you going to let your citizens be treated like this or are you afraid of the Mercers and the other right wing billionaires probably funding this? I'd love to see @bluestein or @gpbnews take a look at this and ask some hard questions. Lots of questions.
Where else is this happening? Have they dropped these requests in other states. Vince seems like a busy guy. I can't imagine Georgia is his only target and Media Metrics has 1200 websites now nationwide providing disinfo and cover to "reporters" to get our info. Get mad people.
Oh heyn since you're here you can find more of my analysis about the threats to our democracy on my network home @MeidasTouch where we post new episodes of @OnDemocracyPod every Friday night at 11PM EST and my hot takes. Catch the current episode here.
So, this will all be dismissed as "hysteria" and lack of understanding of the law by many reporters. This is not the same info normally available in VoteBuilder or other databases. But the larger issue is a fake media network as cover for right wing groups vacuuming our info.
I've worked with NGP and VoteBuilder. The signature request is what sets me off. The idea that Vince is going around the whole country saying he's a journalist but never publishing any "stories." It's the dark money funding all of it. This isn't just about GA. Jesus I'm tired.
Great update from the good folks at Dade County Democrats that confirms my sources worries as well. This is not a typical request. Don't let anyone tell you it is.

Let me tell you why I think Trump and the Republicans are screwed with just 10 days to go. 3 things:

1) Ground game
2) Closing message
3) Momentum

1) Ground game…they don’t have one. Lara Trump nuked all the building the RNC had done. Trump torched all of his money on lawyers. They simply ignored the entire concept thinking rallies and transphobic ads were enough. They aren’t. Politics hasn’t changed so much that people knocking doors, making calls, organizing voter drives, and pews to the polls etc don’t matter. Do you really think these marching bands leading college students to vote happened spontaneously? No! They’ve got Elmo desperately throwing money into a bonfire with paid canvassers that are ripping him off! They aren’t knocking the doors and have no skin in the game. They aren’t true believers. They aren’t convincing anyone. In the last ten days…it’s all about turn out…turn out is a ground game…Trump has zero.
2) Closing message: Harris and Walz are flooding the zone with their messaging on her main issues from Trump’s fascism to women’s reproductive heath to expanding Medicare for caregivers. Today Trump shit on Michigan…in Michigan. He called America a garbage can. Says the real enemies of America are within. Attacked Beyoncé. All while his clown show of surrogates like Elmo are telling people things are going to be bad when he gets elected to “fix” things. His VP nominee is a fascist dipshit who keeps saying weird shit like his wife isn’t white but he loves her anyway. Thats before we talk about the fact Melania and Usha are nowhere to be seen. Dude can’t even get his wife to hang out with him. It’s an incoherent goat rodeo of messaging up against a machine running on all cylinders.
3) Momentum: Harris is running a series of rallies highlighting different issues that have become must see TV! She had easily over 4 million viewers on Twitter alone for each of her last two rallies. The Dems have an absolute flood of surrogates filling events from celebrities to the Obama’s and elected’s. Shapiro has been a machine in Pennsylvania while Kemp held an event in Georgia today with like 30 people in the whole park. Trump is falling apart before our eyes. He is canceling interviews, showing up hours late for rallies, rambling incoherently and bragging about it because some idiot told him he’s doing the “weave” when he’s really a mentally ill idiot who can’t complete a thought. He’s having a rally at Madison Square Garden with the longest list of freaks and nutjobs imaginable from Rudy Giuliani to famed comedian Kill Tony…but not a single member of Congress or candidate from New York except pathetic Elise Stefanik. You don’t have to be psychic to feel they are limping into the finale while Harris-Walz is an express train of joy, organization, money, and good policies. The momentum is all on the Dems. That’s before we talk about the insane turnout from women.

It's the 1st week of September. In 2 weeks I'll have the privilege to start calling Democratic nominees for House to let them know they're getting a donation from @forgottendems for their 6-week run GOTV efforts. We'll give what we have to those who need it most, first. (1/4)
Our model is simple. All donations are distributed directly to nominees without any restrictions or barriers except who needs it the most. Donations to Forgotten Democrats are split amongst all candidates. That's it. We simply want to help candidates in the toughest races. (2/4)
We don't have a giant staff. We don't do ads. We don't even pummel you with emails. We ask for donations. They go into a pot and get split amongst eligible Democrats running for Congress. I'd love your help as we approach this milestone in our first cycle. (3/4)

MAGA is trying to say the family authorized these photos and the campaign stunt so it’s okay. That’s false and a lie. There was an official photographer there from Arlington. The campaign wanted their guys. Arlington does that to make sure other families aren’t caught up against their wishes. That’s on top of it being a campaign staffer which is literally against Federal law. They were told that and then assaulted an Army official when she wouldn’t budge. Do you see that grave on the left? Major Navas. His family didn’t get to approve his grave being included in Trump’s stunt. You see that family visiting their loved one way in the back? They didn’t get to approve being included in this ridiculous smiling picture as they mourned. That’s why they have the rules and official photographers. Because this family doesn’t get to over rule the others and use their families for this campaign stunt. Not even for that fucking loser and former failed President Trump.Image
Second important point. This was not an official event. This was arranged by two of the 13 families as a private wreath laying. They invited Trump because they are huge supporters. That’s their right. Every day there are unofficial wreath layings by groups, families and nonprofits. The POTUS and VPOTUS don’t attend. The family can do that. They can’t over rule the law. They can’t take away the rights of the other hundreds of families with loved ones in Section 60. Their statement is meaningless. Trump broke the law and used our most hallowed ground as a campaign stunt.
Finally, save me the “Biden and Harris never honor our fallen!” Bullshit. Biden is often at Arlington and in Section 60 plus the holidays. Google is your friend.

Some more thoughts about the Creators at the DNC. I have seen and personally saw so much bitching from the media about us 200 Creators being at the DNC. They said we were getting special treatment and taking away from them. There was apparently 15,000 credentialed media in Chicago. Yes. You read that right, 15,000 and 200 of us.
I went to the second Veterans and Military Family Council meeting on Thursday afternoon. I was chasing a hunch that maybe @Tim_Walz may show up and a tip that @iamwesmoore was going to speak. Four members of Congress spoke and actress Busy Philipps gave a great speech.
I was the ONLY media representative in the room. Yes...not one of the 15,000 media who bitched incessantly about our special access bothered to sign up to attend the meeting to hear about how the DNC was supporting veterans running for office or policy recommendations.

You guys would not believe how much the political media cried about us having the audacity to be treated like media. To have access to surrogates. To…(feints) get seats in the PRESS SECTION!!! The last night a print guy went down my row barking at everyone sitting there “Are you media?!?” They showed up an hour after the speeches started and were outraged the hand scrawled pieces of paper on seats wasn’t enough for the Secret Service to hold them. We told the stories they ignored. — Content creators own the week at Democratic National Convention | Courthouse News Service courthousenews.com/content-creato…
This is what I was doing. Stalking media row. Working the phones. Attending council and caucus meetings. Working my ass off trying to get studio time to record interviews. I finally gave up and just threw lavaliere mics on and talked in the hallways. It was hard work.
It wasn’t perfect but talked to some really cool people. Here is this weeks show with some of them and future shows will have more.

This is how you chase off people. The fundamental lack of understanding of modern American families and lives. I was the perfect white Catholic nuclear family guy in September 1994. Army Captain, beautiful wife, pregnant with our first child. Then a car accident took them.
Widower at 29. Emergency move to Hawaii. Meet a young woman with 2 amazing kids, 6 and 2. Marry quickly and have 2 more. Able to adopt our oldest. We go through 3 combat tours and trials of life and divorce after 24 years. My oldest 2 have kids and I’m a (step) grandfather of 4.
I meet an amazing woman with 2 teenagers and we are a family now too. This is modern life. This 1950’s fantasy of the perfect little nuclear family of daddy working and mommy at home with their 2.3 children is just that. A total fantasy.
